This position’s primary focus is to contribute and execute on the team’s strategic plans for design innovation and product line sustainability and expansion.\nPower Connector’s Design Engineer is a dynamic, adaptable, open-minded problem solver with exceptional technical and analytical skills. This position plays a key role in sustaining and enhancing our current capabilities and output through strategic planning and engineering to increase efficiency and productivity in all design engineering disciplines. This position has a strong influence on the fundamental principles guiding design structure and functionality and works closely with the General Manager to realize the company’s true designing potential.\nMinimum Qualifications\n Education:\nBachelor’s of Science in engineering or related field\nExperience:\n3-5 years of experience of design engineering or related field\n2-5 years of electrical connector design experience\n Knowledge:\nAbility to create 3D Computer-aided design (CAD) models and drawings\nAbility to read drawings, specifications, test procedures, etc.\nFundamental mathematical and physical principles\nProficient in MS Office\nGeometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)\nSkills:\nGood oral and written communication and presentation skills\nGreat interpersonal skills\nExcellent organizational skills\nResults-oriented with strong analytical skills\nAbility to work well independently and part of a team\nAbility to motivate team members in a creative and effective manner\nAbility to work effectively under stressful and dynamic environments\nJob Responsibilities\nAssist with research and development, new product introduction, and production deployment.\nCreate CAD models, drawings, specification sheets, and prototypes for new and existing products utilizing Solidworks.\nModify existing products to improve efficiency and performance.\nDesign for manufacturability.\nResearch materials and production costs to determine manufacturing requirements.\nEnsure product designs conform to customer and government specifications.\nTest designs to ensure they meet safety, usability, and environmental impact standards.\nAnalyze data from tests and identify opportunities for improvement.\nCollaborate with engineering, sales, procurement, and production teams.\nPresent designs and prototypes to customers and colleagues.\nCreate BOMs and routings for new products, legacy products, and engineering changes as necessary.\nDevelop and manage costing analysis as necessary during product development and deployment.\nCreate part numbers, assign classification, build product structure and Bill of Materials, generate routings, assign standard labor times, etc. for all levels of components and assemblies in current MRP system.\nManage and participate in product design reviews to provide input on design and manufacturing requirements, functional requirements, capacity, potential failure modes, etc.\nManage projects, including budgets, schedules, and costs when applicable.\nPerform DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and Risk Assessments.\nEnsure that the company’s designs and designing processes comply with all government laws and regulations.\nReview and calculate labor, material, and other production costs along with reviewing schedules and future production requirements to assist management in decision making.\nCollaborate with quality team to assure products are being produced to applicable specifications.\nEvaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in quality control.\nDevise procedures to inspect and report quality issues.\nAssure the reliability and consistency of product manufacturing by checking processes and final output.\nFacilitate proactive solutions by collecting and analyzing manufacturing data.\nDocument and optimize design procedures to ensure replicability and compliance with internal and external standards.\nContribute to internally driven and customer-driven Root Cause Corrective Actions and failure analysis.\nAssist in the preparation for quality audits.\nAny additional tasks necessary to execute on the team’s strategy for design sustainability, improvement, and optimization.\n Other responsibilities, initiatives and ad-hoc projects as required. \nPhysical Requirements\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
