Our Submarine platform provides intelligent data caching and optimisation that eliminates redundant requests and optimises vendor routing, delivering measurable cost reductions of 15-25% for market data consumption. We seamlessly integrate with client systems, emulating various data request protocols and response formats while providing unprecedented control over reference data spend.\nThe Role\nWe are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our growing team in a client-facing role. You will be the technical voice of our Data Caching platform, Submarine, for our prospects and clients, supporting Sales through pre-sales conversations and owning the journey through to a live, supported deployment.\nYou will explain how the Submarine environment is designed and built, capture and analyse each client’s current infrastructure and market data set-up and determine whether we can deploy as standard or need to adapt our methods. You will then lead the implementation of Submarine in the client environment and remain available as a technical point of contact for support issues once live. This role suits someone who can take an ambiguous client request and turn it into a clear plan, rather than someone who needs fully specified tickets to get things done.\nKey Responsibilities\nPre-Sales and Client Discovery\nPartner with Sales to present and explain the Submarine architecture, deployment model, and environment set-up to client technical, security, and infrastructure teams.\nCapture and document each client’s current environment, including infrastructure, network, security controls, and market data integrations and protocols.\nAssess fit between the client environment and our standard deployment approach, identify gaps, and recommend whether we implement as-is or adapt our methods.\nRespond to technical questionnaires, security reviews, and due diligence requests alongside Sales and Engineering.\nImplementation and Delivery\nLead end-to-end implementation of Submarine in client environments, from solution design through deployment, configuration, testing, and go-live, with minimal disruption to clients.\nDesign and deploy cloud-native infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation) and manage containerised workloads in Docker and, where required, Kubernetes.\nAdapt and automate deployment pipelines (CI/CD) to fit client change-control and release processes.\nTroubleshoot application and integration components, such as connectivity to RabbitMQ and remote SFTP servers, and other issues outside standard interfaces.\nConfigure client-specific data transformation and routing using JavaScript and API access within Submarine.\nApply security and compliance best practices, including system hardening, patching, and alignment with client security requirements.\nSupport and Continuous Improvement\nAct as a technical escalation point for support issues, diagnosing and resolving problems in live client environments.\nProduce clear technical documentation, including runbooks, architecture diagrams, and client-specific configuration records.\nDefine disaster recovery and fault tolerance approaches for client deployments.\nFeed client learnings back to Product and Engineering to improve deployment tooling, standards, and the Submarine platform.\nMentor colleagues and promote DevOps best practices across the Implementation team.\nSkills and Qualifications\nEssential\n6+ years in DevOps, Site Reliability, or Systems Engineering, including senior-level ownership of infrastructure.\nProven, hands-on experience in a client-facing technical role (pre-sales engineering, implementation, professional services, or similar), including handling clients who push on scope. Able to explain complex technical topics to technical and non-technical audiences.\nStrong hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Pulumi).\nExperience with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes, EKS, or similar).\nSolid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS) and cloud-native patterns.\nExperience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Jenkins).\nWorking understanding of JavaScript and how the components fit together.\nExcellent troubleshooting skills across networking, messaging (e.g., RabbitMQ), and file transfer (e.g., SFTP) components.\nUnderstanding of security best practices and compliance frameworks, and experience working within enterprise security reviews.\nExcellent written and verbal communication, including producing detailed technical documentation and runbooks.\nPreferred\nExperience in financial services or market data environments (we will consider exceptional candidates without this).\nBasic understanding of financial instruments (e.g. futures, bonds, equities) to support day-to-day client conversations.\nFamiliarity with market data systems (Market EDM, Golden Source, Cadence/Cadis, or CRD from State Street).\nAPI integration experience (REST APIs, data requests, response handling).\nExperience with configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet).\nExperience with observability platforms (Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus/Grafana).\nKnowledge of GitOps tools (ArgoCD, Flux), policy-as-code (OPA, Kyverno), and Docker image pipelines and artifact repositories.\nExperience supporting a production service, including on-call or support rotas.\nSoft Skills\nConfident presenter who builds credibility quickly with client technical teams.\nComfortable working asynchronously and collaborating across Sales, Engineering, Support, and clients (Slack, Teams).\nGenuine ownership of their work and their clients: sees things through to the end, and treats problems, including incidents, as theirs to solve.\nUnderstands the context behind a client request and distils it into clear next steps, without needing a detailed ticket.\nJudges the level of effort involved and spots and flags scope creep early.\nManages their own deadlines without close supervision.\nStays organised across a large amount of scattered information, through memory or their own system, so nothing is dropped.
