This role is ideal for an accounting leader who enjoys being close to the details, identifying process gaps, improving internal controls, and driving meaningful operational change.\nThe Divisional Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while actively managing core accounting activities, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, reconciliations, and the monthly close process, as applicable to the division.\nBeyond traditional controllership responsibilities, this individual will take an active role in improving accounting workflows, standardizing processes, resolving recurring issues, and implementing practical solutions that increase efficiency, accountability, and financial visibility. The successful candidate will be a proactive problem-solver who can balance daily execution with continuous improvement and effectively influence change across Accounting, Finance, and Operations.\nThis is a remote position requiring strong communication skills, self-direction, and the ability to collaborate effectively with geographically dispersed teams. This position requires a candidate with a CPA and distribution experience. \nKey Responsibilities:\nAccounting Operations & Financial Reporting\nOversee and actively participate in daily accounting activities to ensure accurate, complete, and timely financial information.\nManage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring deadlines are consistently met and financial results are properly supported.\nReview general ledger activity, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and balance sheet accounts to maintain financial accuracy.\nMonitor and resolve accounting discrepancies, aged reconciling items, and transaction-processing issues.\nOversee applicable accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash application, collections, and related accounting activities.\nEnsure revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and other transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.\nPrepare and review financial statements, operating reports, account analyses, and supporting schedules.\nMaintain appropriate internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness.\nPartner with divisional leadership to explain financial results, investigate variances, and address issues affecting financial performance.\nProcess Improvement & Operational Excellence\nEvaluate existing accounting processes to identify inefficiencies, control gaps, unnecessary manual work, and opportunities for improvement.\nLead hands-on efforts to streamline workflows, simplify procedures, and reduce recurring errors and rework.\nStandardize accounting practices, documentation, and reporting across teams and locations where appropriate.\nDevelop and implement practical solutions that improve transaction accuracy, processing speed, and overall accounting efficiency.\nIdentify opportunities to automate routine tasks, improve system utilization, and strengthen data integrity.\nEstablish clear procedures, process ownership, and accountability for recurring accounting activities.\nDevelop and monitor key performance indicators to measure process effectiveness and identify opportunities for further improvement.\nFollow through on improvement initiatives to ensure changes are implemented, adopted, and delivering measurable results.\nChange Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership\nDrive change by identifying problems, recommending solutions, and taking ownership of implementation through completion.\nPartner with Operations, Sales, Shared Services, and other Finance stakeholders to resolve process breakdowns and improve the flow of financial information.\nBuild strong working relationships with operational leaders to address root causes rather than simply correcting accounting errors after the fact.\nCommunicate process changes clearly and help stakeholders understand new procedures, expectations, and responsibilities.\nChallenge existing practices constructively and encourage a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.\nSupport the implementation of new systems, accounting tools, reporting processes, and organizational initiatives.\nManage competing priorities while maintaining focus on critical deadlines, accurate reporting, and sustainable process improvements.\nFinancial Controls, Compliance & Risk Management\nEnsure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.\nIdentify control weaknesses and implement corrective actions to reduce financial and operational risk.\nCoordinate internal and external audit requests and ensure supporting documentation is complete and readily available.\nMonitor balance sheet integrity, transaction accuracy, and adherence to established accounting procedures.\nEnsure accounting issues are escalated promptly, with clear recommendations and follow-through on resolution.\nTeam Leadership & Development\nProvide direction, coaching, and support to accounting personnel within the division.\nEstablish clear performance expectations, reinforce accountability, and promote consistent execution.\nIdentify training needs and improve team capability through standardized procedures and knowledge sharing.\nEncourage team members to identify inefficiencies, recommend solutions, and take ownership of process improvements.\nCollaborate with corporate Finance and Accounting leadership to align divisional practices with company-wide objectives.\nQualifications:\nBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.\nCPA.\nDistribution experience.\n7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.\nStrong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and the monthly close process.\nDemonstrated experience managing hands-on accounting operations and resolving complex transactional or accounting issues.\nProven ability to identify process inefficiencies, implement improvements, and drive change in an established organization.\nExperience strengthening internal controls, standardizing workflows, and improving accounting accuracy and efficiency.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues and determine root causes.\nExperience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools; proficiency with Excel required.\nAbility to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate across functional teams.\nDemonstrated ability to work independently and maintain accountability in a remote environment.\nAbility to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance. \nPreferred Qualifications:\nExperience in distribution, wholesale, manufacturing, equipment, service, rental, or other operationally complex businesses.\nExperience supporting multiple locations, business units, or decentralized operations.\nFamiliarity with inventory accounting, operational billing, work orders, fixed assets, service revenue, or rental accounting, depending on divisional scope.\nExperience with ERP platforms such as JD Edwards or comparable enterprise accounting systems.\nA track record of implementing measurable improvements to close timelines, reconciliation processes, billing accuracy, or overall accounting
