The primary role of the cardiac sonographer is to obtain high quality recordings of ultrasound images of the heart and related structures for the physicians who will interpret the examination.\nWhat you will need as a Cardiac Sonographer:\nHigh School Diploma, or GED or equivalent, college preferred.\nRegistered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible and certified within one year of date of hire OR\nRegistered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).\nBasic Life Support (BLS) certification\nTwo years adult echocardiography experience preferred.\nTransesophageal echocardiogram, stress echo, dobutamine stress echo and pediatric experience preferred.\nWhat you will do as a Cardiac Sonographer:\nResponsible for interpreting the physician’s orders and scanning areas of the heart using proper positioning techniques.\nSelects proper equipment; ie. Transducers and techniques for ultrasound scanning procedures.\nMay be exposed to infectious disease when caring for patients.\nMay be required to work under pressure during a crisis situation.\nWeekend and holiday rotation required. 24 hour on-call provided. May be required to rotate occasional oncall.\nDemonstrates proficiency in the conduction and performance of echocardiograms on adult and pediatric inpatients and outpatients\nAdeptly assists the physician with procedures, such as, but not limited to stat echocardiograms, transesophageal, dobutamine stress echo and stress echos.\nHave knowledge of normal anatomy and ultrasound physics so proper display of anatomical structures is identified and recorded.\nMust be knowledgeable about the operation of equipment necessary to perform accurate testing. Keeps equipment clean.\nAccountable to report equipment concerns to appropriate resources; is able to trouble shoot basic equipment issues. Request maintenance as necessary for equipment.\nTransfer patients to the stretcher/bed and position as necessary.\nTransport necessary equipment to patient’s bedside when the patient’s condition does not warrant transfer to the Non-Invasive Lab.\nProvides physical comfort and emotional support for patients.\nCompletes tech worksheet with all pertinent data, calculations and observations recorded.\nMaintains a daily log of all patients and procedures. Maintains accurate patient files.\nOrders and maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies for the non-invasive lab.\nFollows prescribed hospital isolation techniques and Universal precautions.\nParticipates in department meetings, in service and QA programs as they relate to non-invasive cardiology.\nMaintains skills as RDCS with responsibility for obtaining necessary education credits necessary for registry.\nDemonstrates and actively promotes an understanding and commitment to the mission of St. Joseph Mercy Oakland through performing behaviors consistent with the Trinity Health Values.\n Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Organizational Integrity Program, including the Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behaviors.\n Supports and conducts one's self in a manner consistent with customer service expectations.\nIn accordance with unit or departmental practice, determines that appropriate charges have been entered for the correct patient, encounter, date/time of service, with any required modifiers. Make corrections as needed per charge capture policy/practice.\nIn accordance with unit or departmental practice, actively participates in on-going education and communication regarding revenue management.\nIn accordance with unit or departmental practice, assists with tracking and monitoring of equipment assigned to the unit.
