ONCOLOGY GENETIC COUNSELOR
NAMPA MEDICAL CENTER
SUMMARY:
In collaboration with physicians, provideshigh-level independent genetic counseling. Clinically assess and counsel individuals and families regarding genetics and risk management. Provideseducation to patients and families as well as to physicians and the community.
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) required, orobtained within 12 months from hire date.
American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) certification requiredwithin 12 months of hire.
Minimum of one-year experience in Genetic Counselingpreferred.
State of Idaho provisional/regularlicense required, orobtained within 12 months of hire.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions
Demonstrate knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Adolescent, Adult, Geriatrics)
Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients.
Worksin collaboration with individual Programs and with referring physicians to ensure provision of appropriate care.
Obtainsand evaluatesthe family histories of the patient and patient’s family members to provide genetic evaluation.
Discusseswith the patient and thefamily the features, natural history, means of diagnosis, genetic and environmental factors, and management of risk for pre-disposition syndromes or genetic conditions.
Identifies, coordinates, and obtainsinformed consent for genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies as appropriate for genetic assessment.
Integratesthe results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests with individual and family medical histories.
Explainsto a patient and the patient’s family the clinical implications of the results of genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic tests.
Providesrisk analysis and calculation.
Discussesinformed consent, privacy issues, and confidentiality and discrimination concerns with patients.
Providespost-test counseling and support, including review of medical management options.
Providesaccurate, appropriate and timely reports for patient records and to referringphysicians.
Identifies and usescommunity resources that provide medical, educational, financial, psychosocial support and advocacy.
Providesgenetics education to other health care professionals.
Attendsapplicable meetings and conferences.
