ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
• Guide the technical architecture of existing software solutions and act as an architectural authority for the development of new solutions
• Advise on and make decisions regarding the overall technical direction of a product or suite of products
• Develop the strategy for application development and define technical infrastructure to support that strategy
• Research, recommend and provide estimates for integration with third party components or complex systems
• During critical production issues, participate in the efforts to quickly assess, make recommendations and implement solutions
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to other technical staff as well as other groups within the organization
• Lead the efforts to define best-in-class development processes and engineering practices
• Provide guidance on new technology and framework decisions, including buy versus build
• Through design and code reviews, ensure new development is compliant with the defined solution architecture, that incorporates organization’s architecture strategy
• Contribute to and drive technological and architectural decisions
• Assist peer organizations with activities such as performance, scalability and reliability testing
• Research new or emerging technologies to ensure application standards and processes are continuously improved and aligned with industry standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)

• 10+ years of hands on experience with architecting and building mission critical, high performance web based applications, with minimum 3 years in an Architect role
• Strong OO design and coding skills
• Well versed in multi-tier web application architecture
• Exceptional troubleshooting and debugging skills
• Experienced with best practices and patterns for building large scale distributed applications
• Experienced with middleware technologies for messaging, caching, services etc
• Good understanding of industry trends and technologies in high scalability, PaaS and distributed application development
• Solid understanding of relational database concepts and experience using Oracle or SQLServer
• Experience with JBoss or Tomcat
• Experience working in Agile environment
• Proficient in application development using Java/J2EE technology (Servlets, JSP, JMS), standard frameworks (Hibernate, Spring), SOA, web services
• Experience with security protocols and technologies for integration (SSL, web services security)
• Experience in developing mobile applications (native and web) is a big plus
