Are you a Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Mechatronics Technologist, or experienced HVAC/Controls Technician with 7+ years of hands-on experience?

• Advanced mechanical & HVAC expertise: Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, improve, and calibrate complex HVAC, ventilation, heating, cooling, compressed air, and domestic water systems supporting specialized scientific facilities
• Controls & instrumentation expertise: Work with HVAC controls, electromechanical systems, sensors, instrumentation, and control systems to maintain reliable building and ventilation system operation
• Technical problem-solving: Diagnose complex mechanical and operational issues, apply independent judgment, and develop practical solutions using current standards, technical knowledge, and specialized techniques
• Calibration & testing skills: Perform testing and calibration of sensors, instrumentation, and system components, and prepare and maintain procedures to support reliable system performance
• Technical leadership & mentorship: Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to technicians and employees, and oversee work to ensure equipment is operated and maintained correctly
• Strong communication & hands-on skills: Bring strong written and verbal communication, practical mechanical aptitude, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in challenging situations

BASIC FUNCTION:

This is a fully qualified and expert Technician tasked with the maintenance, repair, improvement and calibration of the nuclear ventilation systems and related components and equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Independently carries out a variety of assignments that include the maintenance, repair and calibration of the nuclear ventilation system and components
• Provides direction and oversight for proper operation and improvements of the ventilation and control systems
• Maintenance and repair of building systems such as ventilation, heating, domestic water and compressed air systems
• Contributes to design changes and improvements to the nuclear ventilation system, in consultation with engineers
• Prepares and maintains work procedures for testing and calibration
• Demonstrates and instructs users in the usage and operation of the nuclear ventilation system
• Maintains, repairs and improves the DOC system
• Oversees the work of other personnel and technicians

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

While there are no supervisory responsibilities associated with this position, the incumbent will provide technical oversight to users on the function and correct usage of equipment. Is expected to provide guidance, training, and mentorship to other employees within job area.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The use of independent thinking, initiative, sound judgment and the application of latest standards and knowledge in resolving complex design and/or operational problems is expected.

• Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, electromechanical systems, and controls is required to solve technical problems related to complex building mechanical systems for cyclotron operation
• Proven ability to apply knowledge and experience to the design, calibration, testing and manufacturing of relevant components/systems as per operational requirements
• Advanced Knowledge and understanding of control systems relating to HVAC, cooling systems and electrical power distribution systems is required to maintain system operation
• Expert technical experience with calibration of sensors and instrumentation used on building systems
• Demonstrated ability to use specialized techniques to solve problems, and adapt and react appropriately to new situations
• Incumbent must have good oral and written communication skills, hands-on mechanical aptitude and be able to work well under stress

NUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:

The incumbent will be required to complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

• A technology diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field from a technical college or institute
• At least of 7 years of relevant and practical work experience after technical certification

Salary: $82,535.00 per annum plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan
