The Group is responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation, maintenance, and engineering support of TRIUMF's electrical infrastructure and site fire alarm systems.\nAs a discipline Group Leader, the incumbent ensures that all engineering work performed by the Group complies with applicable legislation, codes, standards, TRIUMF policies and procedures, including TRIUMF’s Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP). The position establishes operational plans with measurable contributions toward departmental objectives, typically with a one-year or longer time frame and is accountable for achieving results that impact the department and broader organization.\nThis is a management position, the incumbent will be responsible for leading, directing, and reviewing the work of a team consisting primarily of emerging to expert-level engineers, technologists, and electricians. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and technical expertise to ensure the successful delivery of operational, maintenance, and engineering objectives.\nORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:\nThe position reports to the Head of Engineering Services. The incumbent will work closely with Engineering Services groups, the Project Management Office, Accelerator Operations, Facilities, Safety, and other departments to ensure the successful delivery of engineering services and operational support. Key relationships include:\nDirect leadership and coordination of the Electrical Services Group.\nCollaboration with project managers and project teams to support capital projects and infrastructure upgrades.\nLiaison with internal stakeholders regarding electrical engineering policies, standards, practices, and procedures.\nCoordination with utility providers, consultants, contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities, as required.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nThe incumbent is responsible for the leadership, planning, and management of the Electrical Services Group, including:\nReview and final approval of electrical distribution designs\nEstablishing operational plans and objectives aligned with departmental priorities and strategic goals.\nMay have budget accountability and responsibility for managing elements of the Group's operating and maintenance budgets.\nPreparing and administering annual operating plans, maintenance plans, budgets, and resource forecasts.\nEnsuring that engineering work complies with applicable legislation, regulations, codes, standards, and TRIUMF policies and procedures.\nProviding engineering oversight and support for capital projects, infrastructure upgrades, and operational activities.\nManaging or overseeing the site fire alarm system and associated engineering activities.\nSupporting electrical safety programs and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safe work practices.\nResponsible for making moderate to significant improvements to processes, systems, and work practices to enhance departmental effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability.\nMaintaining appropriate engineering, operational, maintenance, and regulatory records.\nSupporting development of engineering standards, procedures, training programs, and best practices.\nPromoting a culture of safety, quality, continuous improvement, accountability, and professional excellence.\nSUPERVISION EXERCISED:\nDirectly manages a team consisting primarily of emerging to expert-level engineers, technologists, and electricians.\nResponsibilities include:\nLeading, directing, and reviewing the work of team members.\nAssigning work and establishing priorities for the team.\nManaging employee performance and development.\nHiring, promotion recommendations, discipline, and performance assessment of direct reports.\nCoordinating and overseeing the work of contractors, consultants, and external service providers.\nProviding leadership, coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to staff.\nKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:\nDemonstrated ability to lead and manage work teams, processes, and projects within a complex technical environment.\nExcellent interpersonal, and communication skills.\nHands-on experience designing electrical distribution systems\nKnowledge and experience reviewing SLDs, as well as sizing transformers, cables and cable trays\nExperience performing ground-fault, short-circuit, and arc-flash analyses, capacitor bank switching studies, and power system transient and frequency response analyses\nAdvanced knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, standards, and professional engineering requirements, including the Canadian Electrical Code and relevant British Columbia regulations\nExperience managing budgets, operational plans, and resource allocation\nNUCLEAR ENERGY WORKER:\nThe incumbent will be required to complete the TRIUMF in-house radiation safety training course and be designated as a TRIUMF Nuclear Energy Worker.\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline from an accredited institution. \nSpecialization in power systems is considered an asset\nRegistration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), or eligibility for registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).\n8 to 12 years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including management or leadership experience of an equivalent scope and complexity.\nDemonstrated experience leading and managing technical teams, projects, processes, and operational activities.\nExperience in electrical infrastructure, industrial facilities, utilities, research facilities, or similar complex operating environments is considered an asset.\nApplicants must be legally able to work in Canada on a permanent basis (Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident).\nSalary: $133,535.00 CAD plus our comprehensive employer-paid benefits plan\nPosition type:\nPermanentTotal Rewards\nAt TRIUMF, we value our employees and are committed to providing a competitive total rewards package.
