Fueling innovation and improving lives, we are committed to accelerating discovery and shaping a better world.\nThe Machine Learning and Quantum Information Systems Specialist will play a key role in advancing TRIUMF’s research programs by applying cutting-edge methods and technologies in Machine Learning (ML) and Quantum Information (QI). To be effective in this position, the incumbent will collaborate closely with research groups to identify opportunities where ML and QI can enhance scientific output, co-supervise students and postdoctoral researchers, and provide guidance in developing and adapting innovative methodologies to achieve research objectives.\nThe Specialist will also collaborate closely with the Canadian ATLAS Tier-1 Centre team and play a leading role in the software framework development, integration, and optimization of accelerators-based applications for the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider challenging computing environment. Development activities are crucial in ensuring that advanced compute accelerator technologies based on GPUs, FPGAs and/or Quantum Computing, are effectively deployed and utilized in a heterogeneous high-performance computing environment.\nBeyond project leadership, the incumbent will share expertise through presentations, workshops, and training initiatives, both within TRIUMF and with national and international collaborators. They will also contribute to the next generation of talent by supporting internships, capstone projects, and summer schools.\nFinally, the Specialist will help foster strategic partnerships with Canadian academia and industry to further strengthen TRIUMF’s ML and QI initiatives and broaden their impact.\nRESPONSIBILITIES:\nApply and develop advanced methods and technologies in Machine Learning (ML) and Quantum Information (QI) to enhance TRIUMF’s research programs.\nCollaborate with research groups to identify opportunities where ML and QI can improve scientific output.\nProvide guidance in developing and adapting innovative methodologies to achieve research objectives.\nCo-supervise students and postdoctoral researchers engaged in related projects.\nLeading role in R&D activities enabling use of advanced compute accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, Quantum Computing) at the Canadian ATLAS Tier-1 Centre.\nShare expertise through presentations, workshops, and training opportunities at TRIUMF and with national/international collaborators.\nContribute to training and mentorship through internships, capstone projects, and summer schools.\nBuild and maintain strategic partnerships with industry to expand TRIUMF’s ML and QI initiatives and their impact.\nWork on complex issues that require in-depth evaluation of variable factors and make non-routine decisions on project work where a high degree of accuracy and sound judgement are vital, as errors in detail or in decisions could lead to setbacks with research programs.\nDetermine selection criteria for methods and techniques used in individual projects and have the ability to present complex ideas to interdisciplinary teams and team leaders anticipating objections and concerns.\nResponsible for objectives with long timelines with impact on several teams and lead cross-functional work that extends beyond their own area of expertise.\nDeveloping a professional network within the institution, nationally and internationally among academic and business leaders.\nSUPERVISION EXERCISED:\nThere are no direct supervisory responsibilities associated with the position.
