True Anomaly is an American space defence company founded in 2022 by former United States Space Force officers to build spacecraft and software for orbital security missions. Its Jackal autonomous orbital vehicle is designed for rendezvous, proximity operations and inspection of other satellites, and its Mosaic software provides mission planning, simulation and command and control for space operations, sold mainly to the Space Force and allied defence customers. Headquartered in Centennial, Colorado, the company manufactures its own spacecraft and has raised substantial venture funding to scale production.

Space is a warfighting domain. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build the technology that secures it.

OUR MISSION

True Anomaly delivers decisive capabilities for space superiority. We build autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors - enabling the U.S. and its Allies to secure the space environment and counter threats from the ultimate high ground.

OUR VALUES

  • Be the offset.  We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity.
  • What would it take?  We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results.
  • It’s the people.  Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together.

YOUR MISSION

We are looking for a Mission Systems Engineer to join our team in developing the next generation of space control systems. As a Mission Systems Engineer on the Mission Architecture team, you will be responsible for building simulation tools, conducting mission analyses, and supporting system-level engineering decisions. The Mission Systems Engineer role spans the full program execution lifecycle, from contract award through mission completion.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Mission Design & Requirements Analysis:

  • Apply analysis and modeling techniques, including parametric analysis, to support engineering decisions in the absence of specific requirements.
  • Build and use system modeling and analysis capabilities to support trade studies, performance evaluations, and feasibility assessments and to inform system architecture decisions.
  • Lead the design, simulation, and analysis of rendezvous and proximity operations mission trajectories.
  • Lead the design, simulation, and analysis of constellation mission performance.
  • Optimize spacecraft maneuvers to achieve mission objectives while considering fuel efficiency, timing, and risk mitigation.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and customers.

System Integration & Verification:

  • Oversee the integration of mission systems, ensuring seamless interaction among hardware, software, and operational components.
  • Coordinate with subsystem teams to troubleshoot and resolve integration challenges, ensuring mission readiness.
  • Support mission operations teams during testing and real-time mission execution.

Modeling, Simulation & Analysis:

  • Apply the fundamentals of astrodynamics using software and analysis tools, including orbit propagation, orbit determination, geometric orbit analysis, and mission engineering concepts.
  • Develop, maintain, and apply mission engineering analysis tools to inform concept of operations development, design reference mission performance, and system trade studies.
  • Collaborate with subject-matter experts to ensure model fidelity captures subsystem behavior at the appropriate level.
  • Design parametric analyses and Monte Carlo studies to support engineering decision-making.
  • Conduct system performance analyses, including assessments of reliability, safety, and mission effectiveness under various environmental conditions.
  • Assess mission success criteria and operational risks and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct pre-flight and post-flight mission analyses, including trajectory reconstruction and anomaly investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in mission analysis, space operations, or orbital mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, and autonomous space operations.
  • Hands-on experience with mission analysis tools such as STK, FreeFlyer, GMAT, or similar software.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools and programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++.
