This is a full-time, onsite leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys developing teams, taking ownership of financial operations, and contributing to a meaningful mission.\nWhat You'll Do as the Controller:\nLead daily accounting operations for a multi-location nonprofit with diverse healthcare and community-based programs.\nManage, mentor, and support a team of three accounting professionals, establishing clear expectations and accountability.\nOversee monthly close, financial statements, reconciliations, and year-end reporting.\nDirect annual financial audits, coordinate with external auditors, and maintain strong internal controls.\nManage financial reporting and compliance for government grants, restricted funding, and multiple program budgets.\nPartner with the CFO on financial planning, reporting improvements, and operational priorities.\nReview payroll-related accounting activity and ensure accurate financial records.\nImprove accounting workflows, strengthen team performance, and support the development of future finance leaders.\nMust-Haves as the Controller:\nApproximately 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful supervisory responsibility.\nProven ability to independently lead an accounting team and manage competing financial deadlines.\nStrong command of GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and audit preparation.\nExperience in nonprofit accounting or a similarly complex, multi-program financial environment.\nConfidence working directly with senior leadership and making sound accounting decisions.\nA hands-on management style with the ability to coach employees while remaining involved in financial operations.\nAbility to work onsite in Newark, NJ, Monday through Friday.\nNice-to-Haves as the Controller:\nCPA designation.\nExperience in nonprofit healthcare, behavioral health, human services, or community-based organizations.\nKnowledge of grant accounting, restricted funds, government contracts, and compliance reporting.\nExperience with Sage MIP or comparable nonprofit accounting systems.\nBackground managing multiple funding streams, locations, or service lines.\nExperience developing accounting staff and supporting organizational growth.\nThis Role Offers:\nBase salary of $95,000-$115,000, with potential flexibility to approximately $120,000 for exceptional qualifications.\nFull-time, direct-hire employment with an established, mission-focused organization.\n403(b) retirement plan and an additional employer-supported pension program, subject to plan terms.\nHealth insurance, prescription coverage, and employer-paid dental, vision, and life insurance.\nPotential performance-dependent salary increases and discretionary appreciation bonuses.\nComplimentary lunch.\nA collaborative finance team with experienced executive leadership.\nMeaningful visibility, decision-making responsibility, and the opportunity to help shape the accounting department.\nLong-term professional growth, including potential advancement into broader financial leadership.\nTrueline is an unabashed equal-opportunity employer committed to a diverse workforce.
