  • Calculate labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect costs using realistic production rates and construction methods.
  • Develop and organize bids using HCSS HeavyBid or comparable estimating software.
  • Request and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive costs.
  • Identify potential construction challenges, contractual risks, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and leadership on bid strategies, construction approaches, and project schedules.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, estimate reviews, and bid/no-bid evaluations.
  • Present estimate summaries, including projected costs, margins, contingencies, and key assumptions.
  • Support project handoffs, change order pricing, budgeting, and comparisons between estimated and actual costs.

Must-Haves as the Estimator:

  • 3-5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, mining construction, excavation, or related infrastructure work.
  • Strong understanding of earthwork, grading, underground utilities, road construction, drainage systems, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Experience preparing detailed cost estimates and quantity takeoffs.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
  • Working knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid or comparable estimating software.
  • Understanding of construction labor productivity, equipment costs, material pricing, and subcontractor coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and construction-related software.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Nice-to-Haves as the Estimator:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of heavy civil or mining construction estimating experience.
  • Advanced experience with HCSS HeavyBid and familiarity with HCSS HeavyJob.
  • Experience estimating construction projects for major mining operations.
  • Knowledge of MSHA requirements and mine-site safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with GPS machine control, earthwork modeling, and digital takeoff tools.
  • Experience negotiating subcontractor and supplier pricing.
  • Understanding of construction contracts, bonding, insurance requirements, and risk allocation.

This Role Offers:

  • Annual base salary of $80,000-$120,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full-time employment based in Elko, Nevada.
  • Company-sponsored benefits in accordance with company policies.
  • Opportunities to work on heavy civil construction and mining infrastructure projects.
  • Direct collaboration with company leadership, project management, and field operations.
