This role is ideal for a leader who remains deeply technical, actively contributes to architecture and engineering decisions, and takes ownership of delivering exceptional digital experiences that drive customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and self-service capabilities.\nThis is not a purely managerial role. Success requires strong technical leadership, sound architectural judgment, and direct involvement in engineering execution. You will partner closely with Product, UX, Marketing, e-Commerce, and business stakeholders to modernize and scale the platforms that support the entire member journey across web and mobile channels.\nKey Responsibilities:\nTechnical Leadership\nOperate as a servant leader and take full ownership of the delivery and outcomes for your teams. You actively contribute to application architecture, technical design reviews, implementation strategy, and engineering standards.\nLead teams that build modern customer-facing web and mobile applications that deliver intuitive, reliable, and scalable member experiences. \nDrive modernization efforts across digital platforms, including migration from legacy technologies to modern web and mobile frameworks. \nPartner with architects and senior engineers to establish long-term technology direction while balancing innovation, stability, and operational excellence. \nLeverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude, Codex, Copilot) to improve engineering effectiveness and promote responsible adoption across teams. Leverage AI to both improve time-to-market and quality of software overall. \nChampion best practices for performance, accessibility, security, maintainability, and user experience across all digital properties. \nDigital Experience Delivery & Business Impact\nDrive engineering investments that improve conversion rates, customer engagement, platform reliability, and operational efficiency. \nEnsure work is well-scoped, well-designed, and delivered predictably while maintaining a high standard of quality. \nEstablish engineering practices that support rapid delivery without compromising long-term maintainability. \nProduction Ownership & Operational Excellence\nOwn the health, reliability, and operational readiness of customer-facing digital platforms\nLead and personally contribute to production incident resolution, including hands-on troubleshooting and debugging when necessary.\nDrive structured incident response, root cause analysis, and preventative improvements.\nEstablish and maintain monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability practices.\nEnsure teams are prepared for production support and operational responsibilities.\nPromote a shift-left mindset for quality, security, observability, and operational readiness. \nCross-Functional Leadership\nWork effectively with Product, UX, Marketing, e-Commerce, Engineering, DevOps and Infrastructure, and business stakeholders to align priorities and outcomes.\nCommunicate technical trade-offs, risks, platform strategy, and delivery impacts clearly to executive and non-technical audiences.\nInfluence technical direction through credibility, collaboration, and strong engineering leadership.\nPartner with business teams to translate customer and organizational goals into scalable technology solutions.\nTalent Leadership & Mentorship\nRecruit, hire, and retain high-performing software engineers.\nDrive creation of a high-performance organization that balances accountability, ownership, continuous improvement, innovation, operational excellence, collaboration, communication, and customer obsession.\nMentor engineers and technical leads while developing future engineering leaders. \n Required:\n3+ years' experience as a Software Engineering Manager or Tech Lead with hands-on technical responsibilities.\n3+ years' experience in web technologies such Angular, React, and/or Typescript, and HTML/CSS.\nExperience in C# / .NET, including .NET Framework and .NET Core a strong plus.\nExperience building digital commerce, customer acquisition, enrollment, or self-service experiences.\nWorking understanding and applied experience with SOLID principles, object-oriented design, design patterns, REST APIs, SQL, and relational database design.\nExperience building and maintaining customer-facing web and mobile applications at scale.\nExperience leading teams responsible for web and/or mobile application development.\nExperience with responsive, mobile-first application development and modern UX practices.\nExperience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.\nStrong system design, troubleshooting, and production support experience.\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\nComfortable handling performance management, coaching, and difficult conversations when necessary.\nExperience working within Agile software development methodologies. \nStrongly Preferred:\nExperience with Sitefinity CMS, including content modeling, templates, widgets, custom module development, APIs, and MVC architecture.\nExperience leading web platform modernization, CMS migrations, or large-scale website replatforming initiatives.\nExperience migrating customers and user traffic from legacy digital platforms to modern architectures.\nStrong background in Azure, including Azure SQL, App Services, Service Bus, and cloud-native application development.\nExperience delivering eCommerce, subscription management, payment, or customer acquisition experiences.\nFamiliarity with native mobile development technologies, including Swift and Kotlin.\nExperience working closely with Marketing and Digital Experience teams. \nNice to Have:\nExperience with Sitefinity Cloud\nExperience with RabbitMQ or similar message-driven architectures. \nExperience with containerized environments such as Docker and Kubernetes.\nExperience integrating with third-party platforms such as payment providers, subscription management solutions, Google Maps APIs, reCAPTCHA, or similar services.\nExperience with accessibility standards and WCAG compliance.\nExperience in regulated or mission-critical industries such as insurance, healthcare, or financial services. \n Compensation:\nThe base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $160,000, on a full-time schedule. \nAlong with base compensation, Trupanion employees are currently eligible for monthly bonuses.\nWe want all employees to be invested in Trupanion’s success, so we grant Restricted Stock Units to all new team members.
