Be part of the journey.\nRole Overview and Responsibilities\nRole Purpose\nThe Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of maintenance activities across the Bedlington Resistors business unit.\nThe role ensures that production equipment, plant infrastructure and site utilities are maintained safely, effectively and in accordance with agreed maintenance plans and operational priorities. The Maintenance Supervisor provides direct leadership to the maintenance technicians and apprentices, allocating work, coordinating the response to equipment breakdowns and ensuring planned maintenance is completed to the required safety, quality and technical standards.\nWorking closely with the Equipment Maintenance Manager and Manufacturing teams, the role supports equipment availability, reliability and operational performance. The Maintenance Supervisor promotes a proactive maintenance culture through effective frontline leadership, disciplined use of the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS), structured problem-solving and continuous improvement.\nRole Boundaries\nThe Equipment Maintenance Manager retains accountability for maintenance strategy, budgets, lifecycle planning, capital expenditure, supplier strategy, departmental KPIs and the overall capability and performance of the maintenance function.\nThe Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for translating those plans into safe and effective daily execution, supervising the technicians and apprentices, coordinating breakdown response, controlling work quality and ensuring maintenance priorities are completed and accurately recorded.\nKey Accountabilities\nDaily Maintenance Supervision\nSupervise and coordinate the daily activities of maintenance technicians and apprentices.\nAllocate planned, reactive and improvement work according to production priorities, technical capability and available resources.\nConduct daily maintenance team briefings, ensuring that priorities, safety requirements and outstanding equipment issues are clearly communicated.\nMonitor the progress of maintenance activities and address delays, resource constraints or technical issues promptly.\nCoordinate the maintenance response to equipment breakdowns, ensuring safe and timely fault-finding and repair.\nEscalate significant equipment failures, operational risks and resource concerns to the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nEnsure effective handovers between technicians, shifts and manufacturing teams.\nProvide practical technical support and guidance during complex breakdowns and maintenance activities.\nPreventative and Reactive Maintenance\nEnsure preventative and predictive maintenance activities are completed safely, on time and to the required standard.\nCoordinate breakdown repairs to minimise production downtime and operational disruption.\nReview outstanding and overdue maintenance work and agree recovery priorities with the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nSupport the development and improvement of preventative maintenance instructions, schedules and inspection routines.\nEnsure temporary repairs are properly controlled, documented and followed by appropriate permanent corrective action.\nVerify that equipment is safe, functional and correctly handed back to Manufacturing following maintenance work.\nIdentify recurring equipment problems and initiate structured root cause analysis.\nSupport the implementation and verification of corrective actions arising from equipment failures.\nTeam Leadership and Development\nProvide clear day-to-day leadership, direction and support to maintenance technicians and apprentices.\nSet expectations for safety, attendance, housekeeping, workmanship, communication and personal accountability.\nMonitor standards of work and provide timely, constructive feedback to team members.\nIdentify technical skills gaps and training requirements and communicate these to the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nSupport technician training, coaching, mentoring and competency development.\nHelp apprentices gain appropriate practical experience while ensuring they receive suitable supervision.\nEncourage teamwork, knowledge sharing and ownership of equipment performance.\nSupport the Equipment Maintenance Manager with performance and development discussions by providing objective information on work completion, skills and training needs.\nPromote a professional and responsive maintenance service to internal customers.\nHealth, Safety and Environment\nEnsure all maintenance activities are completed in accordance with Health and Safety legislation, company policies and approved safe systems of work.\nConduct or support risk assessments, method statements and pre-task safety reviews.\nCoordinate permit-to-work, isolation and lockout/tagout requirements for maintenance activities within the role’s level of authorisation.\nEnsure technicians and contractors use the appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.\nStop work where unsafe conditions or practices are identified and escalate significant concerns immediately.\nEnsure good housekeeping is maintained in maintenance workshops, stores and work areas.\nReport and support the investigation of accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and environmental incidents.\nAssist with safety inspections, audits and corrective-action follow-up.\nEnsure that contractors working under maintenance supervision comply with site safety requirements.\nCMMS and Maintenance Records\nUse the CMMS to plan, allocate, monitor and close maintenance work orders.\nEnsure technicians record work completed, time used, parts consumed, failure information and follow-up actions accurately.\nReview completed work orders for quality and completeness before closure.\nMaintain visibility of open, overdue and high-priority maintenance work.\nSupport the accuracy of equipment records, asset histories and preventative maintenance schedules.\nUse CMMS information to identify recurring failures, maintenance backlogs and improvement opportunities.\nProvide accurate daily and weekly maintenance information to the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nEquipment Reliability and Continuous Improvement\nSupport initiatives to improve equipment uptime, reliability and maintainability.\nParticipate in structured root cause analysis and problem-solving activities.\nHelp implement corrective and preventative actions and confirm that improvements are sustained.\nSupport Lean Manufacturing, Total Productive Maintenance and continuous improvement activities.\nWork with Manufacturing and Engineering to identify and eliminate recurring causes of downtime.\nEncourage technicians to identify practical improvements to equipment, maintenance methods and working practices.\nSupport equipment upgrades, refurbishment, installation, commissioning and production readiness activities.\nAssist with the standardisation of maintenance procedures, checklists and technical documentation.\nProduction and Cross-Functional Support\nMaintain close communication with Manufacturing regarding breakdowns, maintenance priorities and equipment availability.\nCoordinate planned maintenance with production schedules to minimise operational disruption.\nProvide clear updates on equipment condition, repair progress and anticipated return to service.\nWork collaboratively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and HSE to resolve equipment-related issues.\nSupport equipment investigations relating to safety, quality, process performance or customer concerns.\nAttend relevant daily operational and production meetings as the maintenance representative when required.\nEnsure that equipment is not released back into production until the appropriate technical and safety checks have been completed.\nSpare Parts, Tools and Contractors\nEnsure technicians have access to the appropriate tools, spare parts, technical information and consumable materials.\nIdentify critical or frequently used spare parts requiring replenishment.\nSupport the control and organisation of maintenance stores and workshop areas.\nMonitor the condition and availability of maintenance tools, test equipment and lifting accessories.\nCoordinate specialist contractors for planned maintenance, breakdown support and statutory inspections when authorised.\nMonitor contractor activities to ensure work is completed safely and to the required technical standard.\nProvide feedback to the Equipment Maintenance Manager on supplier, contractor and spare-parts performance.\nSupport cost control by minimising waste, avoiding unnecessary expenditure and using maintenance resources effectively.\nMaintenance Performance\nSupport the delivery of maintenance KPIs, including:\nEquipment uptime and availability\nPreventative maintenance completion\nMaintenance backlog\nMean Time to Repair\nRepeat equipment failures\nBreakdown response\nSafety and housekeeping standards\nProvide accurate information for maintenance performance reviews.\nIdentify adverse trends and recommend practical recovery or improvement actions.\nFollow up agreed maintenance actions to ensure completion within the required timescales.\nDecision-Making Authority\nThe Equipment Maintenance Supervisor is authorised to:\nPrioritise and allocate daily maintenance work within agreed operational priorities.\nReassign maintenance resources in response to equipment breakdowns or changing production needs.\nStop maintenance work where an unacceptable safety, quality or equipment risk exists.\nEscalate equipment concerns and recommend that equipment remains out of service until it is safe and suitable for production.\nRequest specialist technical or contractor support through the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nRecommend changes to preventative maintenance plans, spare-parts holdings and maintenance procedures.\nSignificant expenditure, permanent changes to maintenance strategy, capital investment decisions and major supplier commitments remain subject to approval by the Equipment Maintenance Manager.\nSkills, Qualifications and Experience\nEssential\nRecognised engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BTEC, ONC, HNC or equivalent qualification or experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing or Maintenance Engineering.\nStrong practical maintenance experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.\nExperience maintaining industrial electrical, mechanical and automated production equipment.\nExperience fault-finding on PLC-controlled machinery and associated industrial systems.\nGood understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance practices.\nExperience using a CMMS or electronic maintenance management system.\nDemonstrated ability to organise work, manage competing priorities and coordinate technical resources.\nStrong practical problem-solving and fault-finding capability.\nGood understanding of maintenance Health and Safety requirements, safe isolation and permit-to-work controls.\nClear
