This position involves working night shifts, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays as off days. You will be classified as a Track Mechanic Trainee for a period of 18 months, during which time the applicable training will be given. Upon successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training, you will be re-classified as a Track Mechanic (Wage Group 8).\nWhat You Will Do\nYou will receive training on the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair work performed on tangent, curved and special track work, track switches and switch components, track bed, and track accessories. \nYou will learn and apply skills required to perform scheduled, running, and emergency repairs to the track work and/or components such as turn-outs, frog castings, rails, slip switches, mechanical and electro-mechanical switching equipment and the track bed/invert.\nThe work will also involve the setting-up and operation of rail bending equipment and assembling/adjusting to ensure proper fit. \nYour training will also involve maintenance and troubleshooting on defective or inoperative track lubrication systems/equipment, small tools and snow removal components.\nYou will be required to report and log all track related issues to Supervisory staff. \nYou will demonstrate behaviours that support diversity, inclusion, and a respectful work and service environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. \nYou will help to remove barriers and accommodate employees and customers (within your area of responsibility) in accordance with TTC’s commitments and obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code (OHRC) and Related Orders, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), and TTC’s policies.\nWhat Qualifications Do You Bring\nA Grade 12 education or its recognized equivalent as determined by the assessment of education credentials by the TTC Operations Training Centre;\nMust be able to attend and successfully complete all portions of the training to sustain the trainee status;\nBasic experience and knowledge of hand and power tools is an asset.\nExperience in track, trades or construction is an asset.\nMust be able to comprehend verbal and written instructions as demonstrated by an ability to understand and follow published operating/safety regulations;\nMust be able to speak clearly in order to exchange information and instructions with the Control Centres;\nMust have a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class \"G\" driver's license in good standing and be able to pass the written and practical tests required for a class “DZ” driver’s license;\nMust have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.\nMust be comfortable with the following work conditions: maybe dirty, dusty, noisy, and greasy, in all possible weather conditions inside or outside; working in confined areas in awkward positions.\nWhat We Offer\nCommitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that promotes a sense of belonging and represents and reflects the needs of the communities we serve.\nOne of the great benefits of being a full-time TTC employee is becoming a member of TTC defined pension plan. \nA comprehensive package that covers health, dental, vision and more.\nSupport for professional development opportunities for all colleagues through a broad range of learning programs that include in-person and online training, leadership development, and support for colleagues’ well-being. \nCommitment to EDI\nThe TTC is committed to upholding the values of equity, diversity, anti-racism and inclusion in the delivery of its services and in its workplaces.
