ABOUT THIS JOB
Position Specific Summary
The Sports Recreation Worker in the City of Tucson’s Parks and Recreation Department supports adult sports leagues, primarily adult softball, by serving as a scorekeeper and assisting with game-day operations.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Sports Recreation Coordinator. This position does not supervise.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains accurate scores, game records, and other required league documentation for adult softball and volleyball games.
- Sets up and removes bases and other necessary game equipment before and after adult softball league games.
- Monitors games and assists with keeping league games on schedule while coordinating with officials, teams, and other recreation staff as needed.
- Communicates game-related issues, concerns, schedule disruptions, and other relevant information to the Recreation Coordinator overseeing the league.
- Observes and documents incidents occurring during league play, including player or spectator conduct, injuries, ejections, disputes, or other situations requiring follow-up by full-time staff.
- Responds to basic questions from players, officials, and spectators and refers concerns or situations requiring additional assistance to the Recreation Coordinator or appropriate full-time staff.
- Travels to various Tucson league and program locations as assigned and arrives prepared to complete scheduled scorekeeping and game-day responsibilities.
- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
The position works outdoors or requires moderate to intermediate physical activity, including standing and walking for extended periods in warm or hot temperature conditions.
This position requires flexibility to work a variety of schedules throughout the season, including evenings, weekends, and occasional hours outside of standard business hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EducationSome High School
Work Experience:
Under one (1) year of relevant experience
Equivalency:
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a competitive athlete, coach, or sports official in softball and/or volleyball
Prior experience serving as a scorekeeper for athletic events
Knowledge of current rules of softball and/or volleyball
