In this role, you will also work alongside product management and customers to identify key features, product performance, and contribute to strategic planning.\nBuilt large embedded (Linux) products in past roles (specifically user-facing products).\nWorked or designed connected edge/cloud environments and architected systems.\nWorked independently on problems and learned in the process.\nCollaborated on an interdisciplinary and diverse team.\nPartnered with Product and Design teams to help scope work.\nWhat skills do I need?\n4+ years of experience building embedded products used daily by customers\nExperience with a systems language (C, C++, Rust)\nExperience in an OS build system (Yocto, Buildroot, Android)\nExperience with shell scripting and command line environments\nFamiliarity with an interpreted language (e.g., JavaScript, Python)\nFamiliarity with common hardware buses and devices (e.g., I2C, SPI, PCIe)\nWorking understanding of fundamental web and networking concepts, including HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, sockets, proxy servers\nExperience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs over a microservice architecture (bonus)\nExperience with Redux, Node.js, Go, Electron, MongoDB, Postgres, WebSockets (bonus)\nExperience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to support debugging, scripting, documentation, or development workflows in embedded or systems environments.\nExperience as a team lead or technical lead for a software team (bonus)\nBias for action and impact\nKey Responsibilities\nMaintain the Tulip Operating System (e.g., building, packaging, and supporting the OS)\nConfigure and maintain routing, networking, and device configurations\nMaintain and add bootloader, kernel patches, and device trees on Tulip hardware\nPort the Tulip OS to other hardware targets\nMaintain and support OS toolchain and versioning\nDebug and resolve customer issues with support staff and technical teams\nSupport security-related tooling for engineering firmware releases and release process\nLeverage modern AI-assisted tooling to accelerate troubleshooting, improve engineering workflows, and support efficient development and maintenance of the Tulip OS and related platform components.\nKey Collaborators\nHardware and Software Engineers\nHardware Manufacturing\nSoftware QA\nApplications Engineering\nProduct Management\nWorking At Tulip\nWe know even great candidates experience imposter syndrome.
