This is a direct-hire position with our client.\nThe Opportunity\nThis is a growth-focused role for an early- to mid-career engineer who wants to build a career in mining geotechnical engineering. You’ll evaluate soil, rock, groundwater, and geologic conditions to support the safe design, construction, and operation of mine workings and infrastructure, including pit slopes, underground excavations, tailings storage facilities, waste dumps, and haul roads. You’ll work alongside experienced geotechnical staff and with mine planning, geology, operations, environmental, and civil engineering teams, with mentoring and training available as you develop.\nResponsibilities\nSupport geotechnical investigations, including drilling programs, rock and soil sampling, laboratory testing, and field mapping.\nAnalyze rock mass behavior, slope stability, ground support requirements, and soil mechanics.\nHelp develop geotechnical models for open-pit and underground operations.\nRun stability analyses and numerical models, including FLAC3D, under the guidance of senior engineers.\nAssist with stope sequencing, mine design optimization, and excavation stability assessments.\nContribute to the design and evaluation of stope dimensions and dilution/ELOS estimates, underground ground support systems, pit slopes and bench configurations, waste rock dumps, and tailings storage facilities.\nSupport Ground Control Management Plans (GCMPs), TARPs, and geotechnical risk management processes.\nMonitor ground conditions and interpret instrumentation data from prisms, piezometers, MPBX/extensometers, and radar systems.\nIdentify geotechnical hazards such as slope failures, rockfalls, subsidence, and seismic activity, and help develop mitigation plans.\nPerform field inspections and prepare stability assessments, risk assessments, and technical reports.\nProvide day-to-day geotechnical support to operations and help develop practical, implementable solutions.\nSupport drill-and-blast optimization from a geotechnical perspective.\nParticipate in mine planning and scheduling meetings.\nAssist with permitting and regulatory submissions and help ensure compliance with mining regulations, environmental standards, and safety policies.\nCoordinate with geologists, mine engineers, surveyors, environmental specialists, contractors, and consultants.\nPresent findings and recommendations to the site team and management.\nThe above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.\nEducation and Experience\nBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.\nMaster’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Rock Mechanics preferred.\n0-5 years of geotechnical, mining, or related engineering experience; recent graduates with relevant internships, co-ops, or research are encouraged to apply.\nWorking knowledge of rock mechanics and soil mechanics through coursework or field experience.\nExposure to slope stability analysis, ground support design, data interpretation, and technical reporting.\nFamiliarity with geotechnical and mine design software such as Rocscience (Unwedge, Dips), GeoStudio, Surpac, Vulcan, AutoCAD, or GIS platforms.\nExperience with FLAC3D or other advanced numerical modeling is a plus but not required;
