This role supports multiple sites with developing and sustaining drilling and blasting programs and systems that deliver target fragmentation, wall control, and ore boundary integrity, safely and at the lowest total cost to the downstream load, haul, and processing chain.\nThe Drill and Blast Engineer works closely with site operations and engineering teams, drill and blast crews, explosives suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and client survey, geology, and engineering teams. This is a corporate remote-based role with approx. 25-50% travel to sites.\nThis position requires a solid understanding of drilling, rock breakage, explosives performance, and blasting regulations, along with the practical judgment to apply them in a contract mining environment. The successful candidate uses data to measure performance, communicates clearly with crews and clients, and drives improvements that show up in drill productivity, dig rates, crusher throughput, and/or cost per ton.\nPosition Responsibilities:\nBlast Design and Planning\nAssist with developing blast design parameters and guidance to site for production, pre-split, trim, and wall-control shots, including pattern geometry, burden and spacing, hole depth, subdrill, stemming, powder factor, and initiation timing.\nEvaluate and tailor designs to geology, rock mass conditions, water, and grade control requirements to achieve blasting objectives.\nDevelop processes and systems to create drill plans and design files for high-precision drill navigation systems as required.\nSelect explosive products and initiation systems (bulk emulsion, ANFO, blends, electronic and non-electric detonators) in coordination with the site team, client, and explosives supplier.\nDrilling Performance and Quality Control\nDevelop processes and systems to track drilling performance, including penetration rate, collar accuracy, hole depth and deviation, redrills, and consumable life. Periodically audit site data and provide recommendations for improvements.\nWork with drill operators and supervisors to troubleshoot drilling issues and improve productivity and accuracy.\nSupport drill fleet selection, bit and consumables evaluations, and drill production estimates.\nBlast Performance Analysis and Optimization\nMeasure fragmentation and correlate results with dig rates, loading productivity, and crusher throughput.\nSupport investigations of blast-related events (such as flyrock, misfires, excessive vibration or airblast, post-blast fumes) and assist site with implementing corrective actions.\nAs required, develop, implement, and monitor ground vibration and air overpressure monitoring programs, maintain seismograph records, and keep blasting within regulatory and permit limits.\nRun controlled trials to balance drill and blast cost against load, haul, and crushing performance on a total-cost basis.\nConduct or support blast movement monitoring to adjust ore boundaries and protect grade control integrity.\nDevelop systems and processes to track and report drill and blast KPIs (powder factor, cost per ton, drill productivity, design compliance) through dashboards and regular reviews. Periodically audit site data and provide recommendations for improvements.\nCompliance, Safety, and Standards\nEnsure drill and blast activities comply with MSHA regulations, ATF requirements for explosives storage and handling, state blasting rules, and client permits.\nDevelop and support systems and processes for sites to maintain blast records, magazine inventory reconciliation, and required regulatory documentation.\nDevelop and maintain SOPs, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses for drilling and blasting activities.\nTrain and mentor site personnel on blast design principles, drill quality, and safe blasting practices.\nPerform other duties as assigned to support safe and effective project execution.\nEstimating and Client Support\nProvide input on drill and blast designs, productivity estimates, and cost inputs for new bids and project startups.\nReview client drill and blast designs and specifications, identify risks, and recommend improvements.\nManage working relationships with explosives suppliers, drilling contractors, and OEMs, including performance reviews and supply arrangements.\nCommunicate blast plans, results, and improvement initiatives clearly to client engineering and operations teams.\nThe Ideal Candidate will have:\nKnowledge\nBachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related technical discipline.\n3-7 years of drill and blast experience in surface mining, quarrying, or heavy civil operations.\nStrong understanding of rock breakage, fragmentation, explosives performance, and initiation systems.\nProficiency with blast design software (DigiShot, SHOTPlus, BlastLogic, or similar) and mine planning or CAD tools (Deswik, Vulcan, Carlson, Civil 3D, or similar).\nWorking knowledge of MSHA explosives regulations and vibration and airblast monitoring practices.\nExperience with high-precision drill navigation systems and drill reporting data.\nAdvanced Excel capability; working proficiency with Power BI or similar reporting tools a plus.\nPreferred Qualifications\nState blaster license or certification.\nExperience in open pit hard rock operations.\nExperience with blast movement monitoring and fragmentation analysis tools.\nExperience with a contract mining company or explosives supplier.\nFamiliarity with face profiling, drone photogrammetry, or borehole deviation surveys.\nKey Competencies / Skills\nPractical, field-oriented engineer who is comfortable on the bench and credible with drill and blast crews.\nAnalytical and data-driven, able to connect blast design changes to measurable downstream results.\nStrong safety mindset with sound judgment in a high-consequence work environment.\nClear communicator across crews, supervisors, managers, suppliers, and client engineering teams.\nHighly organized, with the ability to manage ongoing projects at multiple sites.\nDemonstrates initiative, sound judgment, and a bias toward field-validated results over theoretical approaches.\nCommitted to Turner Mining Group’s values and to advancing safe, efficient, and innovative mining operations across every project we execute.\n","description_format":"text","description_chars":6469,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Mining"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-19T23:52:01Z"},{"event":"close","at":"2026-11-03T14:18:39Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":null,"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/turner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/turner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-03T15:53:16Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":22190,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-04T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":690250},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=690250"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fturner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fturner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fturner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/turner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fturner-mining-group-mining-engineer-drill-blast"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":2884731}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"turnermining.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":2884731},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people);
