The role ensures that projects, contractors, consultants, and supply chain partners comply with environmental legislation, planning conditions, licence requirements, organisational standards, and contractual obligations.\nThe position provides environmental leadership throughout the project lifecycle, supporting sustainable delivery while managing environmental risks, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with ISO 14001 and industry best practice.\nEnvironmental Compliance and Governance\nLead the development and implementation of environmental compliance programmes across construction and infrastructure projects.\nEnsure compliance with environmental legislation, regulatory requirements, permits, licences, and planning conditions.\nProvide expert environmental advice to project teams, contractors, designers, and senior management.\nMonitor legislative developments and emerging environmental requirements, ensuring their implementation across projects.\nSupport environmental incident investigations and ensure corrective and preventative actions are effectively implemented.\nMaintain environmental records and evidence to demonstrate compliance with statutory and contractual requirements.\nContractor Environmental Management\nOversee the environmental performance of contractors and subcontractors throughout project delivery.\nReview and approve Contractor Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs), environmental risk assessments, and method statements.\nConduct environmental audits, inspections, and compliance reviews of construction activities.\nMonitor contractor compliance with environmental obligations, project requirements, and sustainability objectives.\nTrack and manage the close-out of environmental actions arising from audits, inspections, incidents, and regulatory reviews.\nDrive environmental accountability and continuous improvement throughout the supply chain.\nEnvironmental Monitoring and Reporting\nManage environmental monitoring programmes associated with construction and infrastructure activities, including:Surface water quality\nGroundwater quality\nAir quality and dust\nNoise and vibration\nWaste management\nPollution prevention\nBiodiversity and ecological protection\n\nReview and analyse monitoring results to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.\nPrepare environmental performance reports, compliance dashboards, and management reviews.\nDevelop and monitor environmental KPIs and contractor performance metrics.\nProject Environmental Management\nProvide environmental input during project planning, design, procurement, construction, and handover phases.\nParticipate in design reviews to ensure environmental risks are identified and mitigated at the earliest stage.\nSupport environmental impact assessments and environmental risk assessments where required.\nEnsure environmental commitments are embedded within project execution plans and contractor management processes.\nLiaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and local communities on environmental matters as required.\nEnvironmental Management Systems and Sustainability\nSupport the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001.\nDevelop environmental procedures, standards, guidance documents, and best practice initiatives.\nDeliver environmental training, toolbox talks, and awareness programmes for project personnel and contractors.\nSupport organisational sustainability objectives including carbon reduction, waste minimisation, resource efficiency, and biodiversity enhancement.\nPromote a positive environmental culture across all projects and business functions.\nEssential\nDegree qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Construction Management, or a related discipline.\nMinimum 5 years' experience managing environmental compliance within construction, infrastructure, utilities, transportation, or major capital projects.\nStrong understanding of Irish and European environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.\nExperience managing contractors and overseeing compliance on live construction sites.\nKnowledge of the Construction Regulations and the roles and responsibilities of Clients, Designers, PSDPs, and PSCSs.\nExperience implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.\nStrong auditing, inspection, investigation, and reporting skills.\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.\nStrong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.\nExperience preparing reports and presenting environmental performance information to senior management.\nDesirable\nChartered Environmentalist or working towards professional accreditation.\nISO 14001 Internal or Lead Auditor qualification.\nExperience in large-scale infrastructure, transportation, aviation, utilities, civil engineering, or public-sector capital projects.\nKnowledge of sustainability reporting, ESG frameworks, carbon management, and biodiversity requirements.\nProject management qualification or experience managing multidisciplinary project teams.\nKey Deliverables\nEffective environmental compliance across all construction and infrastructure projects.\nRobust contractor environmental assurance and governance arrangements.\nSuccessful implementation and continual improvement of ISO
