The successful candidate will drive the development, planning and execution of the mine, and be a key factor between the long-term and short-term planning functions.\nPrimary Duties & Responsibilities:\nHealth and Safety\nKnows responsibilities related to the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)\nLearns and administers all company and legislated policies and procedures\nContributes to the department’s health and safety goals and objectives\nResponds to safety concerns and/or unsafe conditions, and takes corrective action, or seeks assistance in doing so\nEnvironment\nKnows responsibilities related to the Environmental Management System (EMS)\nContributes to the department’s environmental goals and objectives\nEnsures department activities prevent or mitigate the effects of pollution\nResponds to environmental concerns and takes corrective action, or seeks assistance in doing so\nFollows company standards and guidelines for spill reporting and response\nDepartmental\nUtilizes planning software for mine design, mine planning, dump and leach pad design.\nUtilizes planning software to estimate economic pit shells for design and reporting reserves/resources.\nIdentify planning and operational constraints during the business planning cycle.\nCreate, review and evaluate life of mine plans during the yearly business planning cycle.\nReview and understand yearly cost variances for the business planning cycle.\nLeads engineering projects related to the mine/company.\nReviews and reports end of month production statistics and reconcile actual vs budget variations.\nAssist with daily reporting and production communication to ensure mine plans are being followed.\nAssist and provide mentorship to junior engineers.\nKeeps up with current trends related to mine design software and integrates this information into work assignments and methodology.\nMaintains effective communication between departments.\nKnowledge of block model coding to assist with model manipulation for engineering variables.\nAssist in reclamation planning as needed. \nAssist with daily reporting and production communication to ensure mine plans are being followed.\nAssist and provide mentorship to junior engineers.\nKeeps up with current trends related to mine design software and integrates this information into work assignments and methodology.\nMaintains effective communication between departments.\nKnowledge of block model coding to assist with model manipulation for engineering variables.\nAssist in reclamation planning as needed.\nCost Control & Communication\nManages spending within approved budget\nMaintains effective information exchange with relevant departments\nKnowledge, Skill and Experience:\nBachelor’s degree in mining engineering or Relevant Experience\n7+ years of mining experience, preferably in conventional truck/shovel open pit operation\nWorking knowledge of Mine Plan preferred\nWorking knowledge of survey equipment\nAttention to detail with excellent organizational skills\nAbility to identify, analyze and solve problems\nAbility to prepare accurate records and reports\nExcellent oral and written communication skills with internal and external contacts\nMS Office
