We believe research and deployment should improve each other: real-world operation reveals the problems worth solving, and better technology makes robots more useful. Join a team where your designs, experiments, and code have a direct impact on physical systems.\nWe value technical excellence, collaboration, and respect. Engineers take ownership, make tradeoffs explicit, and help colleagues do better work. We move quickly through building, testing, and learning from what happens on the robot.\nBuild the electrical systems that connect robot hardware, sensing, and control. You will own complex electrical subsystems from requirements and architecture through PCB design, bench bring-up, integration, and reliable repeated use.\nThe work spans power distribution, custom boards, sensor and actuator interfaces, wiring, and the firmware needed to bring those systems to life. You will partner with mechanical, software, and research engineers to make experimental hardware robust, measurable, and easy to reproduce.\nResponsibilities\nDefine electrical requirements, architecture, interface contracts, and validation plans for robot subsystems.\nDesign schematics and PCB layouts; select components and manage prototyping, fabrication, assembly, and revisions.\nDesign power distribution, grounding, protection, connectors, and harnesses appropriate to motors, sensors, and embedded compute.\nIntegrate sensors, actuators, and motor controllers, including embedded interfaces and bring-up firmware as needed.\nUse bench measurements and repeatable tests to isolate faults, including intermittent noise, power, and communication failures.\nValidate electrical behavior on the assembled robot and resolve integration risks with mechanical and software colleagues.\nDeliver design files, bills of materials, harness documentation, firmware interfaces, and acceptance tests; own reliability improvements after handoff.\nRequirements\nEvidence of independently owning a complex electrical subsystem, including personally designing a PCB and taking it through fabrication, bring-up, and integration.\nStrong practical analog and digital fundamentals, power electronics, and signal integrity.\nConfidence using oscilloscopes, multimeters, bench supplies, and other measurement tools to test hypotheses and diagnose failures.\nExperience connecting sensors or actuators to microcontrollers, embedded compute, or control software.\nAbility to reason about grounding, noise, protection, thermal limits, and failure modes in an assembled system.\nAbility to communicate tradeoffs, resolve cross-disciplinary interfaces, and document designs and measurements for others.\nNice to have\nRobotics, motor control, force or tactile sensing, or synchronized sensor acquisition.\nEmbedded C or C++, Python test tooling, and interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, or Ethernet.\nEMI troubleshooting, harness design, design for manufacturing, and repeated hardware builds.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nDeliver an agreed electrical subsystem with verified interfaces and measurable acceptance criteria.\nBring up and validate the subsystem on the robot, with tests that expose likely and intermittent failures.\nMake subsequent builds and maintenance predictable through clear documentation, diagnostics, and feedback-driven fixes.\nAbout our Roles and Titles\nAt Tutor, we believe great engineers and researchers are defined by what they build and the impact they have - not where they sit in an org chart or what title they have. Therefore, everyone in our R&D org holds the title Member of Technical Staff (MoTS). Our job postings use standard titles so you can find us, but if you join Tutor, you'll be a MoTS - with a level that is determined through the interview process.\nThat also means we hire people, not slots. Work at Tutor evolves every quarter, and we set the expectation of flexibility from day one - it's common for people to start on one thing and shift to another based on where the team needs them most. A high technical bar across the board is what makes that flexibility possible: it's what allows people to contribute meaningfully whatever problem they take on.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4234,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":null,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Robotics AI","Industrial Robotics","Robotic Software & Control Systems"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-08T23:23:24Z"}],"visa":[{"country":"US","licensed_sponsor":true,"evidence":"H-1B filings in 12 months: 3","filings_12m":3,"filings_prev_12m":1,"green_card_filings_12m":0,"median_offered_wage_usd":137500,"route":null,"cap_exempt":false,"checked_at":"2026-10-03T21:08:04+00:00","sources":["US Department of Labor: LCA disclosure data (H-1B, H-1B1, E-3)"],"filings_for_role_12m":0}],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":3,"expected_fill_days":135,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:early"],"computed_at":"2026-10-12T06:55:09Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":300000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/tutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/tutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-12T13:40:55Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":21389,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-10-13T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":5788},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=5788"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Ftutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Ftutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Ftutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/tutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Ftutor-intelligence-electrical-engineer"}]}
