You will operate as the senior technical leader across multiple services, owning the architecture for problems that span multiple quarters and organizational boundaries, and you will be accountable for how the platform scales, performs, and stays available as customer demand grows. You will author and defend the designs that go to Twilio's architecture review boards, make tradeoff decisions that carry long term consequences, and raise the engineering bar across a team distributed across the world. Additionally, you will have significant influence on roadmap priorities and on how Flex delivers against Twilio's goal of being the world's most trusted customer engagement platform.\nIf you thrive in fast-moving environments, enjoy working on scalable systems, and are passionate about building high-performance backend services, this role is for you.\nResponsibilities\nIn this role, you’ll:\nDesign, develop, and maintain backend services that power Twilio Flex’s high scale TaskRouter system.\nSet and own the technical direction for a set of high scale, business critical backend services running on AWS, and hold the architectural vision as it evolves\nLead the design of large distributed systems changes, covering scalability, data architecture, fault isolation, and migration strategy\nRaise availability and resilience for Tier 0 systems, and make deliberate tradeoffs between reliability, cost, and delivery speed\nPartner with peer engineering teams, platform teams, and product to align on designs and unblock shared dependencies\nRaise the engineering bar through design review, code review, and direct mentorship of senior and mid level engineers\nDrive operational excellence through observability, gamedays, incident response, and converting recurring issues into permanent fixes\nInfluence roadmap priorities with engineering and product leadership, and represent the team's technical position across the wider organization\nQualifications \nTwilio values diverse experiences from all kinds of industries, and we encourage everyone who meets the required qualifications to apply. We are always looking for people who will bring something new to the table!\n*Required:\n8+ years of experience writing production-grade backend code in a modern programming language (e.g., Java, Golang, Python, Scala, or similar).\nStrong fundamentals and experience in building fault tolerant distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and database design.\nExperience working with AWS cloud-based infrastructure.\nWell-versed in designing and building high-scale, low-latency APIs.\nExperience with database technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL or DynamoDB.\nStrong debugging and troubleshooting skills for complex distributed applications.\nExperience shipping services (products) following the CI/CD development paradigm.\nEffective communication skills and ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment.\nComfortable with ambiguity and problem-solving in a rapidly growing company.\nDesired:\nExperience working with event streaming technologies (Kafka, Pulsar, or similar).\nFamiliarity with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).\nSolid grasp of Linux systems and networking concepts.\nBackground in building multi-tenant SaaS platforms at scale.\nExperience working with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.\nExperience working in a geographically distributed team.\nLocation\nThis role will be remote, and based in India - Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana State, Maharashtra and New Delhi.\nTravel \nWe prioritize connection and opportunities to build relationships with our customers and each other.
