Your work will help Twist and its customers design and evaluate protein sequences, interpret NGS and experimental data, and select candidates for advancement.\nThis is a hands-on, impact-driven role requiring substantial experience developing new algorithms. A strong understanding of protein language models (PLMs) and their use in biological sequence design is required.\nExperience with antibody discovery or engineering is highly preferred but not required. Candidates with relevant experience in other therapeutic proteins are encouraged to apply.\nWhat you’ll do\nDevelop algorithms that integrate protein sequences with NGS and experimental data to derive insights that inform subsequent experiments and design cycles.\nIdentify high-impact opportunities for new algorithms and AI-enabled capabilities, lead their development from concept through experimental validation, and translate successful approaches into reusable tools for research programs.\nDevelop AI/ML methods for designing, evaluating, and optimizing therapeutic protein sequences.\nApply protein language models (PLMs) and related approaches to sequence generation, property prediction, and candidate prioritization.\nPartner with software and bioinformatics teams to integrate models and analytical workflows into scalable research systems.\nLead computational analyses for protein discovery programs, including sequence selection, clone prioritization, and characterization.\nCollaborate across computational, experimental, engineering, and customer-facing teams to translate scientific needs into practical solutions.\nMove flexibly between research, software development, analysis, and troubleshooting as program priorities evolve.\nWhat you’ll bring to the team\nMinimum of 5 years of industry experience with a PhD. \nPhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, computer science, protein science, or a related field.\nExtensive experience developing algorithms for protein design, engineering, discovery, or sequence analysis.\nDemonstrated experience developing and applying AI/ML methods to proteins or other biological sequences.\nStrong understanding of protein language models (PLMs) and protein sequence-structure-function relationships.\nExperience analyzing NGS data from biological selection, screening, or related workflows.\nStrong scientific programming skills (Python) and experience with modern machine-learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).\nA record of translating ambiguous scientific questions into validated computational methods and actionable results.\nStrong cross-functional communication skills, scientific judgment, and a focus on practical impact.\nAbility to communicate complex computational concepts to experimentalists and stakeholders.\nPreferred qualifications\nExperience with antibody discovery, engineering, or characterization is highly preferred but not required.\nExperience with biopanning, display-based discovery, or other protein-selection platforms.\nExperience integrating protein sequence, NGS, and experimental assay data.\nExperience with generative protein design, property prediction, or candidate-ranking methods.\nAbout Twist Bioscience\nTwist Bioscience synthesizes genes from scratch, known as “writing” DNA. Just as children learn to both read and write, the next phase of development for the genomics revolution is the ability to write DNA.\nAt Twist Bioscience, we work in service of people who are changing the world for the better. In fields such as health care, agriculture, industrial chemicals and data storage, our unique silicon-based DNA Synthesis Platform provides precision at a scale that is otherwise unavailable to our customers.\nTwist Bioscience Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Twist Bioscience Corporation provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic characteristics, or any other category protected by law.\nThe base cash compensation for this California-based role is below. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and a generous benefits package. Final compensationamounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location and may vary from the amount listed above. Compensationmay be different in other locations.\nSan Francisco Bay Area Pay Range\n$150,700—$180,800 USD","description_format":"text","description_chars":4886,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"phd","optional":false},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Biotechnology","Health Care","Wealth Management & Financial Advisors","Bioinformatics"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-09-25T20:03:00Z"}],"liveness":{"score":36,"band":"fade","label":"Fading","p_open":1,"p_active":0.656,"p_room":0.55,"age_days":26,"expected_fill_days":23,"reasons":["conf:1","velocity","win:tail"],"computed_at":"2026-09-29T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":180800,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/twist-bioscience-senior-computational-scientist","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/twist-bioscience-senior-computational-scientist.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-09-30T05:01:03Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3502,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1498,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-01T00:00:00Z"}}}
