You will work across a portfolio that spans long-lived ASP.NET Framework applications and new development on modern .NET, owning features end to end.\n\nThis is a hybrid role which requires 3 days onsite, in office, per week. \nResponsibilities\nDesign and deliver complete features, from requirements through deployment.\nWork full stack: database schema, through API, through user interface.\nMaintain, enhance, and modernize existing ASP.NET Framework applications, including WCF services, and help migrate them onto modern .NET.\nDebug and troubleshoot across the stack, including database and query performance.\nFollow and champion best practices for security, testing, and API design.\nOwn testing strategy and code coverage for the areas you work in.\nUse agentic AI development tools with human-in-the-loop review, remaining personally accountable for the code you deliver.\nContribute to and consume shared internal code libraries.\nBuild to WCAG accessibility standards, and work within regulatory requirements such as HIPAA, SOX, and PCI.\nWrite technical documentation and give constructive code review feedback.\nMentor junior engineers and help onboard new team members.\nIdentify and implement process improvements that make the team faster.\nParticipate in an on-call rotation.\nQualifications\n\nRequired\nBachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.\n2+ years of professional software development experience with clear progression in technical responsibility.\nProficiency in C# and .NET, across both .NET Framework and modern .NET.\nWeb development with ASP.NET MVC, Razor Pages, RESTful APIs, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap. Working knowledge of jQuery as it appears in existing applications.\nMicrosoft SQL Server, including schema design and query writing, plus Entity Framework 6 and EF Core.\nSolid grounding in architecture principles, design patterns, and scalable system design.\nSecure coding practices: authentication, role-based access control, n-tier architecture, encryption at rest and in transit, and input validation.\nCI/CD pipelines, containerization with Docker, and intermediate Git and GitHub skills including branching strategies and collaborative workflows.\nPractical experience with agentic AI coding tools and human-in-the-loop review patterns.\nExperience across the full software development lifecycle, with a track record of shipping features and supporting production systems.\nClear written and verbal communication for documentation, code review, and cross-functional work.\n\nPreferred\nTypeScript\nPostgreSQL\nUmbraco CMS\nCloud platforms (AWS or Azure)\nAccessibility testing tools\nPublic sector or other regulated-industry experience\n\nWork schedule and location\n\nThis is a hybrid position based in Madison, Wisconsin. You will work from the Madison office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and remotely the remaining two days and should expect occasional in-person meetings with Wisconsin state agency partners.
