We steward precious resources by finding more sustainable solutions.\n Job Summary\nTYLin is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Electrical Engineer (Traction Power) to support and lead complex Rail + Transit infrastructure projects across the nation serving several R+T agencies.Responsibilities & Qualifications\nWhat You’ll Do:\nTechnical Leadership & Design\nLead the design of traction power systems, including:Traction power substations (TPSS)\nRectifier and transformer systems\nDC switchgear and AC distribution\nOverhead catenary system (OCS) power interfaces\nThird rail power systems\nNegative return, stray current mitigation, and grounding/bonding systems\n\nPerform and oversee load flow, short-circuit, voltage drop, harmonic, and coordination studies.\nDevelop design criteria, technical specifications, drawings, and calculations.\nConduct design reviews and ensure QA/QC compliance.\nProject Delivery\nServe as Engineer of Record (as applicable).\nCoordinate with civil, structural, track, signals, and systems disciplines.\nInterface with utility companies and transit agency stakeholders.\nSupport construction services, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field inspections.\nClient & Business Development Support\nSupport proposals and technical pursuits for regional transit agencies.\nParticipate in client meetings and technical presentations.\nContribute to strategic growth of the Rail + Transit practice in the Mid-Atlantic.\nWhat You’ll Bring:\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred).\nProfessional Engineer (PE) license (DC, MD, or VA preferred; ability to obtain reciprocity required).\n10+ years of progressive experience in traction power and rail electrification design.\nDemonstrated experience with heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, or streetcar systems.\nStrong working knowledge of:DC traction power systems (600V-1500V DC typical ranges)\nAC utility interconnections (e.g., 13.2kV, 25kV, 34.5kV systems)\nProtective relaying and coordination\nGrounding and bonding for rail systems\n\nFamiliarity with rail and transit agencies.\nExperience with ETAP, SKM, or similar power system modeling software preferred.\nStrong written and verbal communication skills.\nWhat We’re Looking For\nA technically rigorous engineer who can operate as a subject matter expert in traction power.\nA collaborative leader who can mentor junior engineers and guide multidisciplinary teams.\nA professional who understands the complexity of public infrastructure delivery and stakeholder coordination in dense urban environments.\nSomeone motivated to help expand TYLin’s Rail + Transit presence in the market.\nWhy TYLin?\nTYLin is a globally recognized infrastructure consulting firm known for delivering technically complex, high-impact transportation projects. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $117,600 - $176,400 annually for this position and local market.
