We protect European sovereignty.\nWe are looking for a Battery Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of advanced low-voltage battery packs. In this role, you will be responsible for battery pack architecture, mechanical integration, thermal management, cell evaluation, electrochemical testing, and safety compliance. Working closely with cross-functional teams and external suppliers, you will drive projects from concept development through prototyping, testing, and production release, ensuring high-performance, reliable, and safe energy storage solutions.\nYour roadmap to make an impact\nPack design & mechanical integration: Design low-voltage battery packs, enclosures, cell modules, busbars and interconnects in CAD - from first concept through to release-ready drawings and BOMs.\n\nThermal & structural layout: Develop thermal management concepts and validate them against mechanical loads, vibration and shock requirements of the target application.\n\nCell selection & benchmarking: Evaluate and qualify cells from different suppliers; build the data basis for design decisions on energy density, power capability, cycle life and cost.\n\nElectrochemical testing: Plan, run and evaluate cell and module tests capacity and rate characterisation, EIS, ageing and cycle-life campaigns, thermal characterisation, and derive design conclusions from the results.\n\nTest infrastructure: Set up and maintain test benches, fixtures and measurement chains; build repeatable test procedures and keep the data properly documented and traceable.\n\nPrototyping & validation: Build and instrument prototype packs, run the validation programme, and feed findings back into the next design iteration.\n\nSafety & standards: Support hazard and risk assessments, define protection concepts (fusing, isolation, venting, propagation resistance) and prepare packs for the relevant transport and product standards (e.g. UN 38.3, IEC 62133).\n\nInterface management: Coordinate technically with mechanics, electronics/BMS, manufacturing and purchasing, and act as the technical counterpart to external cell and component suppliers.\n\nRequirements\nCompleted degree in engineering or natural sciences, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, chemistry, physics or materials science.\n\nRoughly 3-5 years of hands-on experience in battery development, ideally with low-voltage packs for mobile or embedded applications.\n\nSolid understanding of lithium-ion cell chemistry and electrochemistry, cell-to-pack architecture and thermal behavior.\n\nConfident with CAD (e.g. Siemens NX, SolidWorks or CATIA); experience with design for manufacturing and joining technologies for cell contacting (welding, bonding) is a plus.\n\nSolid understanding of state estimation, balancing, thermal control and their interaction with pack hardware\n\nPractical experience with cell cyclers, climate chambers, EIS, data acquisition and general lab measurement technique is a plus.\n\nComfortable evaluating test data with Python or MATLAB; basic familiarity with thermal or electrical simulation is welcome.\n\nWorking knowledge of the safety, testing and transport standards relevant to lithium-ion batteries.\n\nAnalytical, structured way of working, hands-on mentality in the lab, and the ability to work across disciplines in a small, fast-moving team.\n\nLanguages: Fluent English;
