BackEnd Developer to Team Communications for Blocket

Welcome to team Communication! The team that is focusing on the key of keys, the essence of essences, the skill of skills is now growing. Communication, the transmission of a message from a sender to recipient. It sounds simple when you put it that way. But hey, life taught us it’s a way more complex subject due to the fact that it can be affected by a shit load of things like emotions, cultural stuff, the medium used, location, languages and jada jada. Sounds like we’re looking for psychologists here, but actually we need developers that would enjoy making it simpler for Sweden’s population to communicate with each other as they are blocketing and saving tons of carbon dioxide at the same time. Kind of saving the world and bringing peace and harmony to it at the same time. It is in this role that it happens!

What you will be up to

Team communication focuses on building and simplifying the communication between users and communication to users. How do we help our users communicate with each other, how do we facilitate it, what can we do to improve communication and how can we facilitate a safe and secure transaction. It includes the current chat, push notifications and email, but also improving, securing and building future innovative features that will come. You will work in a crossfunctional team with three-four additional developers, as well as UX, data insights, product management and your Engineering Manager.

Who you are

We believe you are a seasoned developer with at least 4 years hands-on experience of Backend development working in a team. You are able to independently lead the development of new features, and enjoy discussing and debating code and solutions with your peers. You like sharing your knowledge with your cross functional team and also more junior developers and above all, you are curious and continuously strive to learn new things. We are often working in pairs so collaboration is another key.

Hey there! Welcome to us! You will be working with such a widely used product that has so many active users. This means that the things we are building will be seen and used by a lot of people every day. It is also a great technical challenge having such a large user base. We constantly get the chance to develop and release new features and updates to make Blocket an even better product. That is inspiring! Another inspiring thing is to work with a product that really lies in time, sustainability is everything these days. The tech stack used by the team is modern, it is really nice to work with an event driven micro service architecture. Frontend and backend work tightly together, we do a lot of pair- and mob programming. Gustav is our manager and with him you can be yourself with Gustav, perfectly candid and relaxed. He is very invested in the product and the team. Nice with a boss that has been a developer, we speak the same language.

Hi there, I’m your new manager

My name is Gustav and I started at Blocket as an Android developer 7 years ago, but about 3 years ago I decided to step back a bit from hands-on development and try the Engineering Manager role. As a manager I strive to have an open and relaxed relationship with my team and to be there to help out with anything they need. I try to be part of the team and to be present and take part when we plan how to solve problems for our users. I am looking forward to meeting you and finding out what you can bring to the mix to improve the team!
