You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Designers, and Data Scientists to deliver systems that optimize pricing, routing, and operational workflows. Your work will directly impact thousands of freight movements every day, and you’ll help define the long-term technical vision for our platform. You’ll also play a key role in mentoring engineers and driving best practices across teams, ensuring our infrastructure is robust, performant, and future-ready.\nWhat the Candidate Will Do\nDesign and implement robust, scalable, and secure backend systems and services across multiple domains.\nLead system design discussions and influence the architecture of large-scale distributed systems.\nDrive engineering best practices and set high standards for code quality, testing, and deployment processes.\nCollaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and Operations to deliver impactful features.\nMentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering growth.\nContribute to long-term technical strategy and proactively identify areas for system and process improvement.\nTroubleshoot complex production issues and lead resolution efforts across teams.\nBasic Qualifications\nMinimum 5 years of software engineering experience.\nStrong problem solving and coding skills.\nExperience with one or more of Go, Java, Python, or C++.\nExperience with micro-service architecture and systems design.\nExperience developing highly scalable backend microservices.\nExperience writing unit and integration tests for backend services.\nDemonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.\nProven experience with leading projects and mentoring junior engineers.\nKnowledge of data structure and algorithms and an ability to use them practically when implementing solutions. \nPreferred Qualifications\nBS, MS, or PhD degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.\nExperience with one of the following databases: MySQL, Cassandra.\nProficiency in configuration targeting, automated rollbacks, and client SDK integration within application deployments.\nExperience shipping high-quality product features on schedule.\nExperience handling complex problems at scale.\nKnowledge of the logistics and freight industry is a bonus.\nExperience with React is a plus.\nAbout Uber Freight \nUber Freight helps companies move goods more reliably and efficiently.
