In this Science Manager role, you will lead an essential team driving significant marketplace influence and business impact.\nWhat you’ll do\nSolve ambiguous, challenging business problems using data-driven approaches\nWork closely with multi-functional leads to develop a technical vision and drive team direction\nDevelop new methodologies for data science including modeling, coding, analytics, optimization, and experimentation\nPresent findings to business leaders to inform decisions\nDesign product experiments and interpret the results to draw detailed and impactful conclusions\nBasic Qualifications\nPh.D., M.S. or Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Operations Research, or other quantitative fields.\n7+ years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent (or 4+ years with Ph.D.).\nMinimum 2 years of experience directly managing a team of scientists, with a proven ability to define clear team structures and build teams.\nExcellent communication and collaboration skills: Able to lead initiatives across multiple product areas and communicate findings with leadership and product teams.\nAbility to use Python or similar technologies to work efficiently with large data sets and prototype algorithms & models\nExperience designing experiments and interpreting the results to draw detailed and actionable conclusions across a variety of key performance indicators\nPreferred Qualifications\n9+ years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist\n5+ years of experience leading high-performing science teams in a marketplace, ride-sharing, or delivery platform.\nExperience in leading key technical projects and substantially influencing the scope and output of others\nThought leadership to drive cross-functional projects from concept to production.\nKnowledge of reinforcement learning, optimization algorithms, or econometrics.\nStrong programming skills to prototype models in at least one of Python (preferably), R, Java, Go, Scala\n For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $216,000 per year - USD $240,000 per year.\nYou will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan.
