Ensuring a seamless, stable, and high-performance experience across a diverse range of devices, OEMs, Android versions, and network conditions is a monumental challenge. This is where the Mobile Observability team comes in. We build the foundational Android SDKs that provide deep, real-time insight into the health of all Uber applications (Rides, Eats, Freight, and more). Our mission is to proactively detect, diagnose, and resolve critical issues like crashes (JVM and native), ANRs, out-of-memory errors, memory leaks, jank, and performance bottlenecks before they impact our users. You will help engineer the lightweight, highly efficient observability tools that are embedded within every Uber Android app. These SDKs are the \"flight recorder\" for our mobile fleet, capturing the diagnostic data needed to identify and fix the most complex bugs that happen in production. If you enjoy solving low-level problems, like debugging hard issues, and want to build tools that directly improve stability for hundreds of millions of users, this is the team for you.\n**What You'll Do**\nDesign, develop, and maintain components of the core Android observability SDKs for crash reporting, ANR detection, performance monitoring, and bug diagnostics.\nWrite performant, low-overhead code. Our SDKs run in the critical path of every Uber app and must have minimal impact on startup time, runtime performance, battery life, and app size. \nInvestigate crashes, ANRs, memory issues, and performance bugs from across Uber's Android apps, perform root cause analysis, and implement platform-level fixes. \nBuild tooling and heuristics to automatically detect and classify bugs, from UI glitches to multi-threaded race conditions. \nDetect and diagnose OEM-specific and Android-version-specific issues across the device landscape. \nWork with backend engineers on the data ingestion pipelines and dashboards that process terabytes of diagnostic data from our mobile fleet. \nSupport feature teams across Uber with guidance, tooling, and best practices on Android stability and performance. \nUphold rigorous standards for code quality, testing (especially unit and integration testing for an SDK), and on-call practices for a Tier-0 service.\n**What You'll Need**\nBachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field OR 3-years full-time Software Engineering work experience, WHICH INCLUDES 3-years total technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Programming language (e.g. Kotlin, Java, C/C++)\nNote the 3-years total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The year of specialized experience is not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.\n**Bonus Points If**\n\n3+ years of Android development experience, with strong proficiency in Kotlin and Java.\nExperience shipping production Android features in a large codebase.\nSolid understanding of Android internals, including the app and process lifecycle, the main thread Looper/Handler model, and the Android framework, with interest in going deeper.\nWorking knowledge of memory management on Android (garbage collection, heap usage, Context and Activity leaks) and concurrency (Kotlin coroutines, threads, executors, RxJava).\nHands-on experience debugging crashes, ANRs, and memory leaks using Android Studio Profiler, heap dumps, and LeakCanary.\nExperience building libraries or SDKs used by other teams.\nExposure to native code (NDK, C/C++), native crash tombstones, or system tracing tools such as Perfetto or simpleperf.\nFamiliarity with mobile observability and crash reporting tools (Android vitals in Play Console, Firebase Crashlytics, or similar).\nExperience working on apps with tens of millions of users or more.\nAbility to own well-scoped components of platform projects and see them through to production.\nStrong focus on writing performant, testable, and resource-efficient code.\nUber's mission is to reimagine the way the world moves for the better. Here, bold ideas create real-world impact, challenges drive growth, and speed fuels progress. What moves us, moves the world - let's move it forward, together. Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time. Please speak with your recruiter to better understand in-office expectations for this role.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4895,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":true},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[{"name":"India","iso":"IN","kind":"country"}],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Transportation & Logistics","Delivery","Ride Hailing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-11-02T10:29:04Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":62,"band":"ok","label":"Likely open","p_open":1,"p_active":0.622,"p_room":1,"age_days":4,"expected_fill_days":12,"reasons":["conf:1","stale_co","velocity","win:early","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-11-06T05:58:05Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-software-engineer-ii-android-2","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-software-engineer-ii-android-2.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-11-06T13:30:00Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","about":"Alion is a live layer of people, companies and AI agents: who they are, whether they are real and active right now, what they do and how to work with them, readable by people and by agents and paid per call.","catalog":"https://alion.io/catalog.json","usage":{"tier":"crawler_verified","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":24778,"day_limit":null,"remaining_today":null,"minute_limit":300,"resets_at":"2026-11-07T00:00:00Z"}},"offers":[{"id":"company.slices","title":"One company in depth, by slice","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002,"plus_per_slice":{"credits":0.05,"usd":0.005}},"unit":"per company, plus each slice with data","note":"the employer in depth","call":{"mcp_tool":"get_company","arguments":{"id":230},"rest":"https://alion.io/mcp/rest/get_company?id=230"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.slices&for=job%2Fuber-software-engineer-ii-android-2"},{"id":"market.stats","title":"A market slice: pay, demand and time to fill","status":"live","price":{"credits":1,"usd":0.1},"unit":"per slice","note":"pay, demand and time to fill for this role and place","call":{"mcp_tool":"market_stats"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=market.stats&for=job%2Fuber-software-engineer-ii-android-2"},{"id":"job.search","title":"Open jobs by role, technology, place, pay and visa","status":"live","price":{"credits":0.02,"usd":0.002},"unit":"per posting in a list","note":"similar open postings","call":{"mcp_tool":"search_jobs"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=job.search&for=job%2Fuber-software-engineer-ii-android-2"},{"id":"company.verify","title":"Is this company real and active right now","status":"pilot","price":null,"unit":"per company","request":{"url":"https://alion.io/catalog/request","method":"POST","body":"{\"offer\": \"company.verify\", \"for\": \"job/uber-software-engineer-ii-android-2\", \"note\": \"what you need it for\"}"},"human":"https://alion.io/catalog?offer=company.verify&for=job%2Fuber-software-engineer-ii-android-2"}],"agent":{"mcp":"https://alion.io/mcp/jobs","mcp_open":"https://alion.io/mcp/open","next":[{"tool":"get_job","arguments":{"id":3603186}},{"tool":"search_jobs","arguments":{"company":"uber.com","detail":"compact"}},{"tool":"match_people","arguments":{"job_id":3603186},"note":"people open to offers who fit this vacancy"}],"note":"The same data through MCP tools: https://alion.io/mcp/open needs no sign-in (compact searches, postings, people); https://alion.io/mcp with an Alion account has everything.
