Our capacity planning platform turns business demand forecasts into resource plans, targets, and quotas across compute, storage, and data infrastructure, so engineering teams can ship without over-provisioning and Finance can trust the numbers.\nThe problems here are messy and the systems are global. Demand is uncertain, cost attribution spans many systems, and plans get revised every forecast cycle. You'll need to make smart decisions with imperfect information, own your work end-to-end, and stay calm when a planning deadline or a high-load production pipeline is on the line. We are looking for engineers who think in systems, pride themselves on robust monitoring and data correctness, and believe the best solutions are built through candid feedback and cross-functional collaboration. If you're energized by challenges and motivated to move the real world, this is where you'll grow.\nWhat You'll Do\nDesign, develop, and maintain high-quality code for the capacity planning stack, including resource demand-to-supply forecasting models, plan-of-record pipelines, and the services that publish and manage capacity and spend plans. The scope ranges from features of moderate complexity to projects with multiple dependencies.\nBuild and scale the data pipelines that join business demand, resource consumption, and cost attribution, balancing technical debt and shifting planning cycles while keeping long-term impact in mind.\nImprove the accuracy and explainability of capacity forecasts and models, and validate changes by backtesting against historical data.\nOwn the software lifecycle end-to-end, from drafting design docs to debugging production issues and managing incidents independently, including keeping planning pipelines correct and on time around forecast deadlines.\nCollaborate across disciplines, including Product, Data Science, Finance, and infrastructure platform owners, to translate ambiguous requirements into simple, elegant system designs.\nChampion engineering best practices by providing quality code reviews, writing comprehensive tests and data-quality checks, and improving system performance.\nNavigate internal complexity and stakeholder inquiries to unblock dependencies and ensure the reliability of our production environment.\nBasic Qualifications\n3+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend development, distributed systems, or data engineering.\nProficiency in one or more object-oriented or functional programming languages (e.g., Go, Java, Python, or C++).\nExperience with data modeling, query optimization, and translating customer problems into system design.\nBachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.\nExperience writing tests to verify functionality and establishing monitoring systems to ensure code stability.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with forecasting, optimization, or statistical modeling, and with turning a model into a reliable production system.\nFamiliarity with capacity planning, resource quotas or scheduling, or cost showback or chargeback systems.\nProficiency with Big Data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink) or real-time data streaming (e.g., Kafka).\nExperience identifying and reducing code-level technical debt in high-load distributed systems.\nDemonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment on engineering trade-offs for complex features and to make progress in high-ambiguity environments.\nBackground in mentoring new team members and contributing to engineering culture.\nStrong communication skills, with a track record of translating complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders.\n For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $171,000 per year - USD $190,000 per year.\nFor Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $171,000 per year - USD $190,000 per year.\nFor all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4314,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":3,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":{"level":"bachelor","optional":true},"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":["Equity"],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Transportation & Logistics","Ride Hailing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-01T08:00:22Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":75,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.837,"p_room":0.9,"age_days":2,"expected_fill_days":5,"reasons":["conf:6","velocity","win:mid","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-03T05:45:00Z"},"pay":{"stated_usd_annual":190000,"is_top_pay":true},"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-software-engineer-ii-capacity-efficiency-engineering","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-software-engineer-ii-capacity-efficiency-engineering.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-04T01:55:53Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":2610,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":2390,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-05T00:00:00Z"}}}
