We're building out a high-velocity team of multi-disciplinary experts to turn real-world operations into high-quality data for our autonomous partners. Autonomy is now a data race-and Uber has an edge: We collect rare, real-world driving data at a scale and capital efficiency no one else can match.\nAs an R&D Technician, you will work alongside hardware and systems engineers to build, modify, test, and troubleshoot prototype data collection vehicles and hardware systems.\nThis is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working on vehicles, building things, solving mechanical and electrical problems, and learning new technologies. You will help turn engineering concepts into working hardware through vehicle integration, fabrication, wiring, troubleshooting, and rapid prototyping.\nWhat You'll Do\nBuild and modify prototype data collection vehicles and test hardware.\nInstall cameras, radar, LiDAR, compute systems, networking equipment, wiring, brackets, and other AV hardware.\nBuild, modify, repair, and route automotive wire harnesses and cable assemblies.\nPerform basic electrical troubleshooting using DMMs, power supplies, continuity testing, and other diagnostic tools.\nAssist with troubleshooting CAN, wiring, power, sensor, and vehicle integration issues.\nRemove and reinstall vehicle interiors, bumpers, trim, body panels, doors, fenders, and other components as required for prototype integration.\nPerform vehicle modifications including drilling, cutting, tapping, trimming, and fitting components.\nPerform basic bodywork and modifications to vehicle panels and structures to support prototype hardware installations.\nBuild and modify brackets, mounts, fixtures, and other prototype hardware.\nUse 3D printers and other rapid-prototyping tools to create functional prototype parts.\nFollow mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, engineering instructions, and build documentation.\nSupport prototype vehicle bring-up, testing, hardware upgrades, and engineering experiments.\nDocument builds, modifications, issues, and test results.\nWork with engineers and senior technicians to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical problems.\nMaintain tools, equipment, parts, and a safe and organized R&D workspace.\nBasic Qualifications\n5+ years of hands-on technical experience in automotive repair, automotive body shop/bodywork, collision repair, vehicle upfitting, motorsports, robotics, manufacturing, aerospace, mechanical fabrication, or a similar hands-on environment.\nStrong mechanical aptitude and extensive experience working with hand tools and power tools.\nExperience disassembling and reassembling vehicles, mechanical systems, or complex electromechanical equipment.\nExperience removing, modifying, fitting, and reinstalling vehicle interior and exterior components.\nBasic understanding of automotive mechanical and low-voltage electrical systems.\nExperience using a digital multimeter for basic voltage, resistance, and continuity measurements.\nAbility to read and follow mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, technical instructions, and build documentation.\nExperience with basic wiring, connectors, crimping, soldering, or electrical assembly.\nComfortable performing vehicle modifications including drilling, cutting, trimming, fastening, and fitting prototype components.\nStrong troubleshooting mindset and willingness to learn unfamiliar systems.\nAbility to work effectively in a fast-moving R&D environment where designs and processes may change frequently.\nStrong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.\nPreferred Qualifications\nAutomotive dealership, independent repair shop, body shop, collision repair, vehicle upfitting, motorsports, EV, ADAS or robotics experience.\nExperience performing automotive bodywork, panel removal/replacement, bumper modifications, or fabrication.\nFamiliarity with CAN bus and automotive diagnostic tools.\nExperience installing or replacing LiDAR, radar, cameras, GNSS, compute hardware, or other vehicle electronics.\nExperience building or modifying automotive wire harnesses.\nExperience with 3D printing.\nBasic machining, welding, sheet-metal, or fabrication experience.\nComputer hardware troubleshooting experience.\nExperience building custom vehicles, prototype vehicles, race cars, robots, or other electromechanical systems.","description_format":"text","description_chars":4502,"description_truncated":false,"requirements":{"experience_years_min":5,"management_years_min":null,"team_size_min":null,"manages_managers":false,"education":null,"security_clearance":false,"languages":[]},"benefits":[],"hiring_locations":[],"hiring_excludes":[],"relocation_offered":false,"industries":["Transportation & Logistics","Ride Hailing"],"lifecycle":[{"event":"open","at":"2026-10-02T23:15:07Z"}],"visa":[],"liveness":{"score":90,"band":"hot","label":"Hiring now","p_open":1,"p_active":0.903,"p_room":1,"age_days":0,"expected_fill_days":5,"reasons":["conf:6","velocity","win:early","comp:brand"],"computed_at":"2026-10-03T05:45:00Z"},"pay":null,"html_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-sr-rd-technician","json_url":"https://alion.io/job/uber-sr-rd-technician.json","meta":{"generated_at":"2026-10-04T02:18:32Z","cache_seconds":300,"methodology":"https://alion.io/methodology","terms":"https://alion.io/terms","contact":"https://alion.io/contact","api":"https://alion.io/developers","usage":{"tier":"crawler","counted_by":"address","units_charged":1,"used_today":3277,"day_limit":5000,"remaining_today":1723,"minute_limit":60,"resets_at":"2026-10-05T00:00:00Z"}}}
