The problems here are complex, the systems are massive, and the stakes are immediate.\nWhat you'll do\nOwn the implementation of complex optimization decision problems and handle low-latency microservices at scale at millions of QPS.\nUnderstand and integrate with prediction systems, unifying pipelines into a combined real-time serving architecture.\nOwn the software lifecycle end-to-end: from design docs through production rollout, debugging live issues, and managing incidents.\nCollaborate across disciplines - Product, Applied Science, UX Design and Ops - to translate ambiguous marketplace problems into robust system designs.\nBasic Qualifications\n5+ years of professional software engineering experience in backend development, distributed systems, or real-time data processing.\nProficiency in one or more object-oriented or functional programming languages (e.g., Go, Java, Python).\nTrack record of leading the design and delivery of complex, multi-quarter projects across team boundaries.\nExperience designing and operating high-throughput, low-latency production services.\nBachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.\nPreferred Qualifications\nExperience with marketplace, pricing, dispatch, forecasting, or other real-time decision systems where algorithm behavior has direct business impact.\nExperience partnering with data scientists or applied scientists to productionize models and experimental systems.\nFamiliarity with real-time data streaming (e.g., Kafka, Flink) or large-scale time-series forecasting.\nDemonstrated technical leadership: mentoring engineers, driving design reviews, and raising operational standards in high-load systems.\nProven ability to thrive in high-ambiguity problem spaces, exercising sound judgment on trade-offs with imperfect information.\n For New York City, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year.\nFor San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $202,000 per year - USD $224,000 per year.\nFor all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
