IMH Supervisor Public Safety

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system,UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as an Public Safety Supervisor (Lieutenant) in the Public Safety Department. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The primary function of this position will be to oversee the daily operations of the Public Safety Department. The incumbent will manage Public Safety staff in providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors in or around the hospital property area. In addition, the position will safely guard hospital property, equipment and supplies. The position will be required to work as a uniformed Public Safety Officer, in order to supplement Public Safety staff on all shifts, as needed. Rotating shifts may be required to address staffing needs of the 24/7 department. This is an armed position.

Essential Job Functions:

• Participates in Operational Excellence initiatives to mitigate waste and enhance productivity within the department. Monitors employee productivity and monitors all employee paperwork for accuracy.
• Provides direct supervision for all staff assigned to them; Prepares work schedules and shift assignments; Assists with the maintenance and testing of all security related systems and vehicles; Reviews all incident reports; Provides daily activity summary for Director; oversees training and development of new hires; Provides basic emergency medical assistance, including CPR and tourniquet application when necessary; Ensures all staff are compliant with required licensing, training and competencies.
• Serves as member of Emergency Management and Environment of Care Committees.
• Demonstrates the ability to respond positively to change in order to maximize the opportunity, minimize the problem, and provide support to staff during times of change. Displays a positive and supportive attitude and represents the department and the hospital in a positive manner to all. The ability to deal effectively, empathetically, but professionally with patients and the general public. • Maintains current and valid driver’s license and FOID Card as well as certifications for firearm, expandable baton, chemical aerosol weapons, handcuffing, defensive tactics, CPI, CPR, IAHSS and required FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 level courses. Maintains current knowledge of applicable laws and regulations which affect position.
• Sets and attains goals for improving personal performance. Seeks opportunities for staff and individual enhancement of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred.
• One to three years of previous experience in healthcare security / public safety leadership and knowledge of security systems, procedures and enforcement codes is required.
• Experience and Training:
  • Minimum of five to seven years of previous experience in healthcare security or public safety field is required
  • State of Illinois 40-Hour Armed Security Officer Certification (Semi-Automatic firearm) is required
  • IAHSS Basic and Advanced Healthcare Security Officer Certification is preferred
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory compliance standards and Illinois criminal law.
• Valid driver’s license
• Valid Illinois Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) Card
• State of Illinois 40-Hour Armed Security Officer Certification (Semi-Automatic firearm)
• State of Illinois Firearm Control Card (issued after hire and upon arrival from State of Illinois)
• CPR Certification
• CPI Certification (completed upon hire)
• Must obtain IAHSS Certified Healthcare Security Supervisor (CHSS) and Health and Safety certifications within six months of appointment.
• Must complete required FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 level courses within six months of appointment.

• Shift: 12 hr, Rotating- 6:00pm - 6:30am, 6:00am - 6:30pm
