Executive Director, Strategic Sourcing

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as theExecutive Director, Strategic Sourcing. We are seeking an experienced leader who will continue to evolve a leading healthcare supply chain operation. This health system leader will have responsibility for the development and execution of the system wide strategic sourcing, contracting, and value analysis functions. You will lead and develop team members while driving clinical sourcing strategies to achieve best total value for the health system including supplier relationship management, negotiation and category management strategies, contract lifecycle management and supply base performance management. This position also oversees the value analysis program activities through the new product development process, including supplier identification, qualification and selection. It oversees all aspects of non-labor cost management along with sourcing and execution of the annual routine capital equipment projects and clinical equipment sourcing for all new sites. This role also leads the Supply Chain affiliate program working closely with the business development office. This is a highly visible role presenting and participating in industry forums and conferences to share knowledge, highlight UCM accomplishments, and to remain abreast of current trends, opportunities and the overall business environment.

Reporting to the Chief Supply Chain Officer, this Executive Director is a strategic business partner. A critical thinker and influential leader, the successful candidate will have 3 direct reports and provide leadership for a department that operates and maintains operations and activities for the Hyde Park Academic Medical Center campus facilities, in addition to the Ingalls Memorial Hospital campus and the UChicago Medicine Crown Point campus, as well as various ambulatory locations in our growing health system. The successful candidate must be able to actively manage human, capital, and operational resources using well-developed metrics and KPIs. This position manages an annual spend over $1B.

Who you are:

• Master’s degree in business, supply chain, and/or related field required. Commensurate experience in lieu of advanced degree will be considered.

• Minimum 10 years of Inventory and Supply Chain Management experience, preferably from a large hospital system with multiple locations.

• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience.

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying and coaching “lean” concepts and operational excellence.

• Proven track record leading cross functional Strategic Sourcing or Value Analysis teams.

• Expertise in integrated business process improvement, value stream map and total cost of ownership, and performance management with Gap Analysis and follow-up.

• Must possess strong negotiation skills and expertise in contracting.

• Solid knowledge and application experience with business information systems: Oracle, Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, VISIO), eSourcing tool skills, and procedural cost per case analytical skills.

• Proven ability to identify and manage projects from concept to implementation and successfully drive project results.

• Requires in-depth knowledge of current best practices in strategic sourcing for multiple categories and suppliers including solid judgment to know what is appropriate for organizational size and scope.

• Ability to utilize business and market data to identify and prioritize sourcing opportunities.

• Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.Ability to speak articulately in high-level forums and to answer difficult questions with confidence. Effective use and the ability to coach problem-solving techniques is essential.

What you’ll do as theExecutive Director, Strategic Sourcing:

• Provide Strategic Sourcing process and sourcing pipeline tracking for health system.

• Lead implementation and use of formal Strategic Sourcing software and analytic tools (including Vizient, ECRI, Workday Sourcing, Oracle Cloud ERP). Develops and meets system Annual Non-Labor margin improvement Targets.

• Lead sourcing program for Capital Project Acquisition for all clinical and non-clinical areas and leads development of MASTER Terms and conditions for Major Strategic Suppliers. Measures Contract negotiation cycle time and achieve improvements in Capital Project Authorization to completed negotiation cycle time.

• Lead Value Analysis program across health system. Coordinates supplier support of VA Teams. Drives lean supply chain integration. Including all new product requests and item formulary management across the health system. Manages clinical approval process for item shortages.

• Oversee RFQ/Proposal analysis and recommendations. Negotiates key system contracts and oversees lifecycle management of contract files in Contract Management System.

• Leads teams to identify, evaluate, and select preferred suppliers. Develops and manages strategic relationships with preferred suppliers. Monitor and improve supplier performance in terms of delivery, quality and cost, technology and customer service.

• Executes supply chain Risk/Disaster Plan and Recovery process and policies in all supplier negotiations. Oversee management of major 3rd party contracts, and supplier scorecard performance management program.

• Exhibit self-development and growth by presenting and participating in industry forums and conferences to share knowledge, highlight UCM accomplishments, and to remain abreast of current trends, and opportunities for our business environment.

• Demonstrate personal leadership qualities and business acumen essential to operate effectively within the institution.
