Location : Hybrid/onsite in San Francisco, California (3 days in office)

Through technical assistance and training, we empower advocates to take on complex asylum cases, providing them with the tools they need to craft winning arguments and secure protections for their clients. We use strategic litigation to advance sound asylum laws and protect due process rights. And our policy advocacy and education work provide critical expertise to policymakers at all levels of government, leading the movement to honor our commitments to refugees and asylum seekers under U.S. and international law. THE ROLE and responsibilities
CGRS seeks a highly motivated individual passionate about refugee rights and ready to lead CGRS’s fundraising efforts with foundations, law firms, individual donors, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources. This position will strengthen CGRS’s relationship with our community of supporters and expand and diversify our funding base.
Typical duties and responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
KEY FUNCTIONS AND PRIORITIES
Manage CGRS Grant Portfolio:
- Develop and execute CGRS’s annual and long-term institutional fundraising plan to meet organizational and programmatic goals;
- Understand CGRS’s mission, programs, and goals to effectively explore and pursue new funding opportunities from a broad range of institutional prospects;
- Lead the drafting of compelling letters of inquiry, concept papers, grant proposals, and other requests for institutional funding;
- Work with program staff to synthesize achievements and capture CGRS’s impact for inclusion in reports to funders and other communications;
- Manage the grants’ calendar and ensure the timely submission of all proposals and reports;
- Perform relevant research to identify grant opportunities and cultivation plans for prospective funders;
- Identify and develop strategies to optimize the grants administration process and streamline cultivation and stewardship of institutional funders;
- Coordinate with the finance team to prepare necessary budgets and financial statements for funders; Execute an annual foundation cultivation strategy which includes updates, phone calls, meetings, and other events to achieve and maintain foundation support and advance funder relationships.
Lead Coordinated Individual Giving Strategy:
- Establish goals, develop activities, and create programming to maintain and grow CGRS’s individual giving program, including major gifts.
- Manage and implement data-driven strategies for annual giving, major giving, monthly giving, and planned giving.
- Organize and direct “moves management” plans to manage and grow each relationship with existing and prospective donors, with an emphasis on upgrading donors and securing multi-year commitments.
- Collaborate with CGRS communications team on a messaging and communications strategy to execute meaningful outreach to supporters and build a sustained base of annual individual donors.
- Manage a solicitation calendar and direct strategic participation of key staff and board members in individual donor development activities.
- Establish and manage the law firm giving campaign.
- Oversee timely and accurate gift entry and acknowledgement process, including documentation and follow up of verbal and written pledges.
- Manage external relationships and communications with donors, prospects, and other relevant stakeholders to advance the goals of the individual giving program.
- Oversee metrics and a reporting system to track development team progress.
- Collaborate with the development team to create and lead activities that foster a culture of philanthropy organization wide.
- Evaluate and improve systems and infrastructure readiness including the use, upgrade, and maintenance of existing development databases.
- When necessary, provide guidance, mentorship, and project management support to development staff and interns to execute projects and activities relevant to the individual giving program and provide project management.
Liaise with CGRS Advisory Board:
- Organize and prepare quarterly Advisory Board meetings, assembling materials and agenda;
- Serve as primary point of communication with Advisory Board members;
- Steward members and their relationships/affinity to CGRS.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of five years (5) experience working in the area of women’s rights, immigrant rights, human rights, social justice, and/or legal services; at least two (2) of which involved fundraising.
- Valid work authorization in The U.S.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A strong commitment to CGRS’s mission;
- Proven leadership, strategy, management, organizational, and fundraising skills;
- Demonstrated ability to write in a clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive manner;
- Excellent oral communication and inter-personal skills;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, excellent organizational and administrative skills;
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently (a selfstarter), as well as being able to function as a member of a team;
- Ability to work under pressure, setting and meeting goals and deadlines;
- Enthusiasm to learn and grow in a demanding and close-knit environment;
- Familiarity with organizational budgets and budgeting software;
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs as well as previous donor database experience; knowledge of Donor Perfect and Constant Contact a plus.
