This role provides an opportunity to lead projects and contribute to high-impact software solutions that are used by enterprises and users worldwide. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of complex software systems, as well as mentoring junior engineers. You will work in a collaborative environment, contributing to the technical foundation behind our flagship products and services.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nPerformance Engineering:\n\nIdentify performance requirements and risks early in the development lifecycle.\n\nExecute load and stress tests, interpret results, analyze performance bottlenecks, and work with the team to improve response times, throughput, and resource utilization.\n\nMonitoring And Observability\n\nBuild and use monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting to understand service behavior.\n\nDefine and review service health indicators, use telemetry to detect performance regressions, and make systems easier to diagnose in production.\n\nCode And Runtime Optimization\n\nAnalyze application and system behavior to find inefficient code paths or resource usage.\n\nRecommend and implement optimizations, then validate their impact through measurement and testing.\n\nPerformance Troubleshooting\n\nInvestigate complex performance issues using profiling and diagnostic tools, including heap and thread dump analysis.\n\nIdentify root causes and drive fixes and preventive measures.\n\nSoftware Development\n\nWrite clean, maintainable, and efficient code for software applications and systems.\n\nUse scripting to automate engineering tasks, test execution, data collection, and routine operational workflows.\n\nTechnical Leadership\n\nLead the design, development, and deployment of complex software applications and systems, ensuring high standards of quality, reliability, and performance.\n\nArchitectural Design\n\nParticipate in or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders, and contribute to the architectural design of new features and systems.\n\nConsider scalability, reliability, maintainability, observability, and performance throughout the design process.\n\nMentorship\n\nProvide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and growth.\n\nCode Review\n\nReview code developed by other engineers, provide constructive feedback, and maintain a high bar for technical excellence.\n\nPromote coding guidelines, elegant and efficient implementations, maintainability, observability, and unit testing.\n\nTesting\n\nBuild testable software, define tests, and participate in the testing process.\n\nAutomate tests using tools such as JUnit and Selenium, and apply design patterns that support the test automation pyramid. Include appropriate performance testing for services and features.\n\nDebugging And Troubleshooting\n\nDiagnose and resolve technical issues to ensure high-quality service operations.\n\nService Health And Quality\n\nMaintain service health and quality, proactively identifying and resolving issues.\n\nUse service health indicators and telemetry to recommend improvements to reliability and performance.\n\nLead thorough root cause analyses and implement measures to prevent recurrence.\n\nDocumentation\n\nDocument new features, enhancements, fixes, and relevant performance findings.\n\nContribute to technical documentation and training materials.\n\nInnovation\n\nStay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, advocating for their adoption where appropriate to improve innovation and productivity within the team (e.g., Claude).\n\nMinimum Qualifications\n\n Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.\n 4+ years of professional software development experience.\n Deep expertise in one or more programming languages such as C, C++, C#, .NET, Python, Java, or JavaScript.\n Extensive experience with software development practices and design patterns.\n Proven track record of delivering complex software projects on time and within budget.\n Proficiency with version control systems like GitHub and bug/work tracking systems like JIRA.\n Understanding of cloud technologies and DevOps principles.\n Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.\n Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\n Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.\n Experience with cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.\n Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.\n Experience with test automation frameworks and tools.\n Knowledge of agile development methodologies.\n Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide junior engineers.\n Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.\n Familiarity with developing accessible technologies.\n Dedicated to diversity and inclusion initiatives.\n\nCompany Overview\n\nUKG is the Workforce Operating Platform that puts workforce understanding to work.
