This engineering role combines hands-on technical analysis, laboratory testing, and customer interaction while developing expertise in embedded controls, safety-related software, and international safety standards such as UL/IEC 60730-1.\n Work with a team of experienced engineers evaluating electrical and electronic control systems used in consumer, commercial and industrial products.\nApply engineering fundamentals to the assessment of hardware, software, and embedded control systems.\nGain experience in the application of international safety standards, including UL/CSA/IEC 60730-1 for automatic electrical controls.\nDevelop technical expertise in embedded hardware, software-controlled systems, and functional safety engineering.\nParticipate in laboratory testing, engineering analysis, customer interactions, and project management activities.\nIdeal for candidates with a strong foundation in electronics, embedded systems, controls, software, or product development who are interested in building technical expertise in product safety and functional safety engineering.\nPerform engineering evaluations on electrical and electronic control systems to applicable safety standards.\nReview electrical schematics, circuit designs, software documentation, control system architectures, and technical specifications.\nSupport project planning activities including scope definition, scheduling, sample requirements, and project estimates.\nCoordinate laboratory testing activities by preparing test plans, data sheets, and instructions for laboratory personnel based on product designs and applicable requirements.\nAnalyze test results and prepare engineering reports documenting compliance findings.\nCommunicate technical requirements, project status, and evaluation results to customers and internal stakeholders.\nInvestigate hardware, software, and system-level issues identified during product evaluations.\nAssist in the assessment of embedded control systems, programmable electronics, sensors, and safety-related control functions. \nParticipate in customer meetings, design reviews, and occasional witness testing activities.\nContribute to the development of new test methods, engineering procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.\nMaintain knowledge of evolving technologies, embedded control systems, software-enabled products, and applicable safety standards.\nMay represent UL at industry related functions such as seminars and trade shown. Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.\nPerform other duties as directed.\nFollow UL Solutions quality, safety, security, and Code of Conduct requirements.\n University Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited program.\nPreferred Qualifications\nCoursework, internship, co-op, research, military, or professional experience involving:\nElectronic circuit design and analysis \nEmbedded systems or microcontroller-based products\nControl systems or industrial automation\nFirmware or software development\nElectrical testing and laboratory equipment\nReading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documentation\nWe understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $64,800- $86,4000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.
