Ulteig is looking to have this position filled by the first week of January 2027. This integral role is a technical specialist for various types of projects using geospatial technology. The GIS Technician is fully competent and knows the application of all conventional aspects and principles of GIS. The Technician will perform GIS tasks which include creating and managing geospatial data, including shapefiles, file geodatabases, and hosted web services. The ideal candidate has basic knowledge of environmental and cultural data and workflows. Coordinates technical GIS activities, project assignments, and information with technical team leads, environmental professionals, engineers, surveyors, planners, and other technical staff as necessary.\nWhat You'll Do\nConduct data gathering, editing, conversion, and analysis of GIS data with a focus on environmental data, including public environmental datasets along with field-collected data.\nLeverage ArcGIS Field Maps coupled with ArcGIS Online web maps to support environmental field data collection, data management, access to data, and the creation of professional cartographic figures.\nApply cartographic standard principles to prepare maps and exhibits using GIS data sets.\nPrepare data documentation and metadata for GIS projects.\nMonitor quality control within the area of responsibility before submitting to the project manager for review.\nCollaborate with technical leads, engineers, planners, surveyors, and other technical staff as necessary.\nReview all work for completeness and accuracy prior to final submission.\nProvide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects with descriptions for each time entry daily.\nProvide GIS analysis and decision support to the appropriate department.\nReview projects for compliance with applicable industry design and safety codes, client or company design and quality standards.\nProvide outstanding client service.\nProvide assistance with technical team leads and client solutions on additional business opportunities.\nWork collaboratively with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team environment.\nComply with all company and client safety standards.\nEnsure personal/ professional information is accurate and maintained.\nParticipate in professional development activities.\nWork closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.\nWhat We Expect from You\nMinimum two-year technical degree in Geography, Environmental, Computer Science, GIS, Engineering, Urban Planning, or related field\nMinimum of 1 year of professional experience.\nBasic knowledge of environmental data, concepts, and workflows. \nBasic knowledge of current GIS technology and software applications.\nBasic knowledge of Esri suite of products, especially ArcGIS Pro, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Online.\nBasic knowledge of geodatabases, editing, geoprocessing tools, map projections, and cartography principles.\nWorking knowledge of Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and Office 365.\nMust possess a well-rounded knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures related to GIS.\nDemonstrates excellent verbal/written communication, time management, interpersonal, organizational, and graphical communication skills.\nDemonstrates the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities.\nDemonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement.\nMust have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.\n\nAs you consider applying for a position at Ulteig, we encourage you to think outside the box - because we do!
