The candidate will be responsible for overseeing a team in designing, coding, testing, integrating, building, and configuring software applications and interfacing with advanced sonar processing sub-systems deployed in multiple operating systems and within multiple shipboard environments. The role would be well-suited to someone who has experience as a software team lead and is looking for an opportunity to influence the technical direction of an entire department.Nationality Requirements\nCandidates must be eligible to obtain the relevant security clearance required for the role, due to the nature of the programmes we deliver for our customers.\nJob Description\nScope:\nReporting directly to the VP Engineering, the Manager Software Engineering is responsible for overseeing a team in designing, coding, testing, and integrating software/firmware components within custom-engineered sonar systems.\n Key Responsibilities:\nProvide technical direction and oversight to Software, Software Test, and Firmware Teams.\n\nTake ownership for defining the technical future of our Sonar/Sonobuoy Products.\n\nIdentify growth and development opportunities for members of the software teams.\n\nMaintain and refine the software/firmware development process(es).\n\nDevelop software/firmware roadmaps to align with product focused organization.\n\nIdentification and selection of development tools and aligning with industry best-practices.\n\nDevelopment and maintenance of the Software Development Environment.\n\nSupport the development of bids and estimates.\n\nRecruit and develop the best talent to solve challenging engineering problems.\n\nRequired Skills/Experience:\nDegree level (or equivalent) in a related engineering discipline such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.\n\n5 or more years of Software Team Lead experience.\n\n10 or more years of C++ and/or Java experience.\n\nSelf-motivated, adaptable to change, proactive, diligent, and inter-personal skills.\n\nKnowledge of Software Engineering best practices, methodologies, processes, and tools, specifically the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).\n\nExperience with Linux operating systems and comfortable working on the command line.\n\nThe Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Canadian / NATO Secret security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment to the satisfaction of the company.\n\nDesired Skills:\nExperience working on customized software solutions for government organizations (any level).\n\nGood understanding of software configuration and build management.\n\nA good working understanding of Microsoft office applications: Word and Excel.\n\nExperience using software development and continuous integration tools (CI/CD) such as, but not limited to: Jira, Azure Devops, Jenkins, static code analysis tools.\n\nAdditional Requirements\nThe Candidate must be capable of acquiring a Canadian/NATO Secret security clearance and a Canadian Controlled Goods assessment to the satisfaction of the company.\n\nDiverse & Inclusive Employer\nUltra Maritime is an equal opportunities employer that values diversity, inclusion, equity and equality.
