We're partnering with a fast-growing technology company building the infrastructure behind next-generation hardware systems.\nTheir platform helps engineering teams process enormous volumes of real-world data, analyse performance and make critical decisions faster, across industries where reliability and precision really matter.\nAbout the Role\nThey're now looking for a Backend Software Engineer who enjoys solving complex distributed systems problems and wants to build infrastructure that makes a genuine difference beyond the screen. This isn't about building another API or maintaining existing services. You'll work on the systems responsible for ingesting, processing and storing high-volume data, making it accessible at scale and ensuring everything performs reliably in production. And you'll have real ownership over what you build, from architecture through to deployment and performance optimisation.\nResponsibilities\nBuild distributed backend systems that ingest, process and store large volumes of real-time telemetry and sensor data.\nDesign scalable data infrastructure, including storage, indexing and querying systems for time-series and event-driven datasets.\nSolve complex performance challenges, improving throughput, latency, fault tolerance and system reliability.\nOptimise production systems, identifying bottlenecks and improving performance as the platform scales.\nWork with modern infrastructure, including Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform and cloud platforms.\nCollaborate with experienced engineers across product and infrastructure to solve complex technical challenges.\nInfluence technical direction, contributing to architecture decisions and engineering best practices.\nRequired Skills\n3+ years of experience building and maintaining backend or distributed systems in production.\nStrong programming experience in Go, Rust or Java.\nExperience building systems where performance, scalability and reliability matter.\nExperience working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP or Azure.\nFamiliarity with containerisation and infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Docker or Terraform.\nStrong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency, fault tolerance, consistency and performance optimisation.\nSomeone who enjoys taking ownership, solving difficult engineering problems and seeing their work through to production.\nPreferred Skills\nTime-series databases, columnar storage or analytics engines such as ClickHouse, TimescaleDB, Druid or InfluxDB.\nStreaming and data processing technologies such as
