business.\nAbout the Role\nWe're looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialising in Java and Observability to help build the tools and infrastructure that make that possible.\nYou'll work on a platform used across multiple cloud and on-premise environments, developing the instrumentation, telemetry pipelines and monitoring capabilities that engineering teams rely on every day.\nFrom Java, Spring Boot and OpenTelemetry to Kubernetes and distributed systems, you'll have the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges and influence how observability is implemented across the entire platform.\nThis is a hands-on engineering role with genuine technical ownership, where you'll collaborate with other engineers to improve system reliability, simplify troubleshooting and make their development experience better.\nWhat you will do:\nBuild and improve observability infrastructure, developing scalable solutions for collecting and analysing metrics, logs and traces.\n\nDevelop Java-based instrumentation, using OpenTelemetry, Micrometer and Spring Boot to make services observable from deployment.\n\nDesign telemetry pipelines that work consistently across AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes and on-premise environments.\n\nImprove monitoring and alerting, helping engineering teams identify issues faster and reduce unnecessary alerts.\n\nDevelop dashboards and reliability metrics, including SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, to support production operations.\n\nIntegrate observability platforms, including New Relic and other monitoring tools, through vendor-neutral OpenTelemetry pipelines.\n\nRequirements\n8+ years of professional experience working with Java and JVM-based technologies in production environments.\n\nStrong hands-on experience with Java 17/21 and Spring Boot.\n\nPractical experience implementing OpenTelemetry, including instrumentation, distributed tracing and telemetry pipelines.\n\nStrong understanding of distributed systems, microservices and backend architecture.\n\nExperience working with Kubernetes and deploying applications across cloud or on-premise environments.\n\nFamiliarity with New Relic, including monitoring, dashboards and alerting.\n\nUnderstanding of metrics, logs, traces, SLIs, SLOs and production monitoring.\n\nExperience building reusable engineering tools, libraries or infrastructure used by multiple
