Responsible for planning and implementing preventive maintenance programmes, supervising maintenance teams, managing maintenance budgets, monitoring machine performance, ensuring food safety and workplace safety, and driving continuous improvement. Requires a Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, at least eight years’ experience in production and plant operations including three years at managerial level, and EBK registration. The position is based in Nairobi and requires on-site work.\n\nRole Purpose\n\nThis position will effectively develop and implement follow-up preventive maintenance programs for all machines, equipment and other facilities and installations on site for maximum life, productivity and efficiency.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPlant Maintenance\n\nTo develop efficient and effective preventive maintenance programs for all equipment and machines.\n\nTo implement budget controls and monitor the maintenance budget to ensure no over-expenditure.\n\nTo organize direct and motivate the maintenance team to optimize productivity.\n\nTo provide effective support and project management to ensure company projects are completed within the scheduled times and cost.\n\nTo provide sound technical and engineering maintenance advice for equipment, machines and facilities improvement.\n\nTo implement ISO/HACCP/DOHSS/NEMA recommendation within the company.\n\nTo facilitate competitive sourcing of cost value engineering services to maximize company returns.\n\nAnalyze budgets and continuously control production costs and identify/rectify waste measures.\n\nMake decisions and advice the business on equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement\n\nMonitor and review the performance of staff and organize necessary interventions for improvement.\n\nEnsure, efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including Production, Distribution and Management\n\nDriving root cause analysis initiatives on equipment availability and performance losses and following up to ensure corrective actions are implemented\n\nCoordinating orientation of all new employees within maintenance to ensure that it is done procedurally\n\nProcess documentation and Reporting\n\nEnsure all maintenance activities are recorded and documents well maintained for all processes\n\nEnsure all maintenance reports are generated and reviewed on time i.e. MTTR, MTBF, utilities report, inventory etc.\n\nEnsure all reports are shared with key parties and that are error free\n\nLead the stocktake process and take corrective actions against variances in the maintenance store\n\nFood Safety\n\nEnsure the Food Safety Management System and customer specific quality standards are implemented for all equipment and production processes.\n\nSupport the Food & Safety team members at the plant to perform their assigned responsibilities to drive a positive food safety culture.\n\nEnsure prompt resolution of complaints/equipment breakdown supported by Root Cause Analyses.\n\nEnhance customer experience through availing machines that produce conforming products\n\nMaintain GMPs above 90%\n\nEnsure compliance to legal/regulatory requirements\n\nImplement Quality Plan and other food safety programs\n\nAdopt the best industrial practice by maintaining proper hygiene levels\n\nConduct equipment inspection for efficiency\n\nOccupational Safety, Health and Environment\n\nEnsure OSHA 2007 is implemented and adhered to by all employees & outsourced contactors/visitors.\n\nDrive a positive occupational safety ownership, health and welfare culture at all levels of the including workplace inspection & hazard identification.\n\nSupport the SHE Committee members at the Plant to perform their assigned duties and responsibilities.\n\nInvestigate all near misses, accidents and incidents and ensure timely reporting in line with policies & procedures – Use problem solving technic to solve chronic issues related to safety\n\nEnsure proper equipment and process design that promotes safety – Safeguard and protect equipment designed to enhance employee safety.\n\nContinual Improvement\n\nEnsure PaTaMu initiatives and projects are implemented leading to continual improvement.\n\nContinuously identify opportunities for improvement for all equipment and apply PaTaMu methodologies to improve.\n\nLead training and upskilling initiatives of technicians and production staff i.e. AM, TPM\n\nEncourage generation and implementation of PaTaMu ideas to drive a culture of innovation and creativity.\n\nEnsure employees have a good understanding of Kaizen and how the PaTaMu model works.\n\nIdentify process challenges & use PDCA to address bottlenecks\n\nCoordinate all continual improvement projects for the function\n\nEnhance employee competences through trainings\n\nSupport activities around Unga’s culture code – FIRST.\n\nParticipate in organizing site events and initiatives as guided.\n\nDrive an effective accountability system in the Plant through daily work management. Utilize Daily Standard Work & Leader Standard Work.\n\nLeadership & Accountability\n\nOversee work performance of staff including goal setting, learning & development\n\nConduct HK Reviews for the maintenance team by reviewing strategies against performance. Participate in the monthly HK Reviews.\n\nConduct periodic performance review, appraisals for employees, develop and implement training plans\n\nCoaching/mentoring employees to scale performance and engagement levels.\n\nImprove process accountability through F2F discussions.\n\nEnsure a competent and engaged workforce by supporting and driving programmes such as talent mapping, implementation of personal development plans, face-to-face feedback sessions, effective meetings and succession planning.\n\nConflict resolution.
