This role oversees all aspects of engineering execution and delivery, driving team velocity and alignment with strategic objectives. The Director, Software Engineering works cross-functionally with Product, UX, and other business stakeholders to ensure solutions are delivered on time and with exceptional quality. Additionally, this role is responsible for building a strong engineering culture, setting direction for technical initiatives, and scaling teams to support future growth.\n\nPosition may allow for occasional telecommuting, with prior approval, within reasonable distance of reporting office.\n\nWhat You’ll Do\nLeads multiple engineering teams and people leaders, driving team performance, career development, and organizational health.\nOversees delivery processes, backlog planning, and cross-team coordination to ensure on-time, high-quality execution.\nPartners closely with Product, UX, and Engineering leadership to align business objectives with scalable technical strategies.\nContributes hands-on to technical design, code review, and development as needed.\nOwns development, measurement, and management of key performance metrics; drives team velocity and engineering outcomes.\nTranslates complex technical topics into clear, actionable insights for business and product stakeholders.\nEvaluates and optimizes vendor solutions, tools, and technology platforms in collaboration with stakeholders.\nDevelops and maintains technology roadmaps in collaboration with engineering and product leadership.\nStandardizes development processes and practices to improve consistency and execution across teams.\nBuilds strong relationships with cross-functional leaders, providing strategic guidance across Product, Agile, UX, and business teams.\nSupports hiring, onboarding, and development of engineering talent, with a focus on mentoring emerging leaders and building a strong leadership pipeline.\nPartners with the Product Leadership and business stakeholders to estimate work to support strategic prioritization.\nProvides clear technical plans to remove delivery obstacles, support testing, and enable realistic implementation timelines.\nGuides cross-team engineering decisions to align with broader departmental strategy.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For:\n\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or (foreign degree equivalent).\n8 years of experience.\nAt least 8 years of experience in software engineering, including application design, development, and testing using modern programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.\nAt least 3 years of experience leading engineering teams, including direct management of software engineers and technical leads.\nAt least 3 years of experience overseeing multiple concurrent software development projects, including responsibility for delivery timelines, code quality, and cross-team coordination.\nAt least 3 years of experience working in Agile development environments, including sprint planning, backlog management, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.\nAt least 3 years of experience contributing to technical architecture, system design, and technology roadmap planning in a production environment.\n\nWho Thrives in This Role\nBased on what we've seen from successful software engineering leaders, you'll do well here if you:\nLead through influence and collaboration, bringing together engineering, product, UX, and business stakeholders around shared goals\nBalance strategic thinking with execution, setting technical direction while staying connected to delivery and outcomes\nDevelop and empower leaders, coaching managers and building high-performing, engaged teams\nCommunicate complex ideas clearly, translating technical concepts into actionable business decisions\nDrive accountability and results, establishing clear expectations and following through on commitments\nNavigate ambiguity with confidence, making sound decisions when priorities compete or information is incomplete\nThink long-term, balancing immediate business needs with scalable, sustainable technology solutions\nContinuously improve teams and processes, increasing effectiveness, quality, and delivery velocity\nWhy UniGroup\n\nUniGroup is the parent company of United Van Lines and Mayflower Transit, two of the most recognized brands in the moving and logistics industry.
