Our principal shareholder is the Austrian VIENNA INSURANCE GROUP, one of the largest insurance groups in Central and Eastern Europe, with a history spanning nearly 200 years.\nABOUT THE TEAM\n\nAt Union, you will join a newly established team working on a greenfield initiative to build a modern, enterprise-scale AI & Data Platform.\nThe team is building a centralized Data Lakehouse (DLH) platform, providing a scalable and secure foundation for enterprise data management, analytics, and AI/ML workloads.\nBeyond developing the underlying cloud infrastructure and platform capabilities, the team focuses on enabling AI and machine learning solutions across business processes, working in close collaboration with business stakeholders to deliver tangible business value.\nAs a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a key role in identifying, designing and delivering AI and machine learning solutions that address complex business challenges and support data-driven decision-making.\nIn this role, you will combine advanced analytics, machine learning and Generative AI capabilities with a strong business-oriented mindset. Applied Machine Learning, Advanced Analytics or a related field.\nStrong hands-on experience with Python and SQL, including commonly used Data Science libraries such as pandas, NumPy and scikit-learn.\nSolid understanding of statistics, probability, machine learning algorithms and predictive modeling techniques.\nProven experience developing and evaluating supervised and unsupervised machine learning models, including classification, regression and clustering.\nExperience with feature engineering, data pre-processing, model validation and performance evaluation.\nPractical experience working with large, complex datasets and combining data from multiple sources.\nExperience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs) or Natural Language Processing (NLP) solutions.\nFamiliarity with cloud-based data platforms and distributed data processing, preferably Microsoft Azure and Databricks.\nExperience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative software development practices.\nAbility to translate business requirements into analytical approaches and communicate complex technical concepts to business stakeholders.\nStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take end-to-end ownership of Data Science initiatives.\nExcellent professional communication skills in English.\nNICE TO HAVE\nHands-on experience with Azure Databricks, Apache Spark or PySpark.\nExperience with Generative AI frameworks and technologies such as Hugging Face, vLLM, LangChain or Azure OpenAI.\nExperience designing and implementing RAG pipelines, LLM-based applications or AI agents.\nKnowledge of deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.\nExperience with MLOps practices, MLflow, model lifecycle management and production deployment.\nExperience with model explainability, interpretability, responsible AI and AI governance.\nExperience developing APIs or integrating machine learning models into enterprise applications.\nFamiliarity with time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, recommendation systems or optimization techniques.\nExperience working in the insurance, banking or financial services industry.\nKnowledge of insurance-related use cases such as risk modeling, fraud detection, claims analytics or customer analytics.\nRelevant academic
