We are proud to be recognized on CNBC World's Top Fintech Companies.\nTHE ROLE\nAs a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be a key owner of the product and building the infrastructure behind it. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to shape features from idea to production, building the financial primitives that power businesses. This is a hands-on role for engineers who care deeply about what they build and why they build it.\nFor the right candidate, it's a rare chance to leave a lasting mark on an industry-defining product.\nKEY RESPONSIBILITIES\nOwn features end-to-end: from product design and API contracts through implementation, testing, and deployment.\n\nCollaborate directly with product and design to define requirements, push back when needed, and help make smart tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope.\n\nBuild reliable, well-crafted backend services that power Unit's Banking, Payments, and Cards products.\n\nWrite APIs and backend logic that developers love to use: with a focus on clarity, correctness, and a great developer experience.\n\nContribute to architectural decisions and help raise the engineering bar across the team.\n\nWHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR\n5+ years of backend development experience, ideally in a product-driven environment where you've owned features\n\nA product mindset: you ask \"why are we building this?\" and you care about the customer experience, not just the technical implementation.\n\nComfort working across the full backend lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and on-call ownership.\n\nExperience building and maintaining reliable systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).\n\nSolid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, availability, failure modes, and observability.\n\nExperience with CI/CD and modern deployment practices.\n\nFintech, payments, or developer-platform experience is a strong plus.\n\nProduction experience with Kubernetes - advantage.\n\nExperience with Scala, ZIO, Cats, or functional programming - advantage.\n\nFamiliarity with DDD, Event Sourcing, or CQRS - advantage.\n\nLIFE AT UNIT\nWorking at Unit means helping shape the future of financial technology.
