Incumbents will manage direct reports including engineers and designers, CAD technicians and administrative personnel and/or supervisors who manage physical design teams. This role is primarily a leadership role but may include both direct billable client work (project work) based on project loading. The incumbent is expected to establish and/or maintain processes for project tracking, quality control, financial controls, personnel development, and client engagement. Personnel responsibilities include developing dynamic teams through superior leadership, training, performance reviews, recruiting, succession planning and adherence to standards of conduct. Provide technical competency and direction on complex engineering and technical problems in the specific area of expertise for the management of engineering projects.\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:\n·Provide leadership and management along with engineering/technical leadership to a skilled, qualified, and motivated engineering and design team by:\nDisplaying effective leadership skills in communication, development, motivation, accountability, and assisting individuals through the use of innovative techniques and effective management systems. \nEnsuring that individuals have the training, tools, personal equipment, work environment, and technical support to optimize their performance and achieve desired results. \nCoaching, training and mentoring an engineering and design team and/or engineering and design supervisors. \nProviding honest and constructive feedback, assistance in setting priorities, and opportunities for personal and professional development. \n·Perform project management and controls activities on client projects along with the ability to be Responsible Charge for engineering.·Ensure that cost and utilization goals are met by effective planning, organizing, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.·Provide technical leadership to ensure that all specific engineering designs are provided per applicable professional codes and standards by:\nProviding technical direction to project teams on complex multi-disciplined projects. \nCreating or maintaining systems for tracking projects, client satisfaction, staff development, and quality control \nDeveloping and maintaining engineering standards, work practices, and systems. \nMaintaining knowledge of the engineering and technical industry codes, standards, and best practices. \nDeveloping and maintaining knowledge of the current and future enablers, systems, and applications available in the industry to ensure continuous improvement. \n·Manage and develop client relations through partnerships between Pike Engineering and our clients ·Administer and ensure adherence to Pike Engineering corporate safety policies.·Carry out administrative duties in accordance with company policy.·Assist in recruiting efforts, business development and strategic planning.·Perform other duties as assigned by management.COMPLEXITY OF WORK:\nComplex; established procedures not available. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.\nREGULAR ATTENDANCE is required.\nEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE\nRequiredA Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or University in Electrical or Civil Engineering (with a preference for Electrical Engineering)and experience equivalent to 10+ years in Engineering practice.\nRequiredEngineering Degree awarded from a College of University that is accredited by ABET\nExperience\n10+ Year(s) Experience in Substation Engineering\nCERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:\nProfessional Engineer (P.E.)\nON-THE-JOB TRAINING:\nSignificant experience at a professional level in electrical power system engineering related to designing utility transmission and distribution substations.\nLANGUAGE SKILLS:\nA.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.\nB.Ability to write reports, Business correspondence, and procedure manuals.\nC.Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community\nMATHEMATICAL SKILLS:\nA.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.\nB.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.\nC.Ability to compute rate, ratios, and percent and to draw and interpret spreadsheets\nREASONING ABILITY:\nA.Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.\nB.Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.\nOTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:\nRequired:\nSelf-Motivated \nWork independently \nTeam-Oriented \nCustomer-Oriented \nGood Communicator \nAble to manage multiple tasks and provide leadership to other team members. \nPreferred:\nSkilled in principles of project management. \nNCEES and registration as a Professional Engineer in multiple states \nExperience in the electric utility industry. \n8 - 10 years of electrical utility substation design experience (as an employee, contractor, or consultant) with a working knowledge of electrical substation design at voltage of 69kV and higher.\nTechnical proficiency in all aspects of electric utility substation design including general arrangement and layout of the substation equipment; understanding of the functions and application of all components (breakers, transformers, cap banks, reactors, etc.); understanding of foundation design, grounding, lightning and shielding protection, relays and controls; etc. \nAbility to ensure that a complete design package (drawings, bill of materials, conduit lists, construction specifications, etc.) are delivered to the client within budget and on time with a high level of quality. \nAbility to constantly improve processes and procedure to ensure best possible delivered designs. \nProficiency with NESC and IEEE and industry standards. \nWorking knowledge and ability to perform: \nGrounding studies. \nBus calculations. \nLightning protection studies. \nSubstation lighting / illumination studies.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
