This role lives the Partnership pillar every day.\nFleet Maintenance Support Manager\nThe Fleet Maintenance Support Manager keeps United Road's fleet running safely, reliably, and cost-effectively. Reporting to the Vice President of Maintenance, this office-based position will lead the Fleet Support Office, manage emergency repair response and the nationwide vendor network, and oversee the tire maintenance program across all terminals. The ideal candidate blends operations management, hands-on maintenance knowledge, and a professional driver's perspective, working closely with location maintenance teams, regional maintenance management, and vendors to reduce tire cost per mile, breakdown frequency, and emergency repair spend.\nJob Duties\nDirect emergency response and ensure staff follow proper emergency repair protocols\nResearch and analyze vendor options and negotiate costs with vendors\nBuild strategic repair network alliances nationwide to control emergency repair costs\nAssist the Vice President of Maintenance in creating department budgets\nGenerate and analyze reports to manage and communicate department budget, performance metrics, and staffing needs\nMonitor company and location performance against KPI objectives and budgets, and develop plans with location and regional management to address shortfalls\nOther duties as assigned\nFleet Support Staff Management\nOversee all aspects of Fleet Support Office operations to ensure quality customer service, efficiency, and effectiveness\nEnsure proper staffing and direct the duties and supervision of Fleet Support Office staff\nManage all aspects of employee relations, including attendance management, performance management, and training and development\nTire Program Management\nBuild, implement, and maintain an effective tire strategy for United Road maintenance operations\nPartner with location maintenance supervision to ensure tire maintenance is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety policies and DOT, OSHA, EPA, and DOL requirements\nCoordinate tire audits and out-of-service tire analyses (OOSTA) with local management and tire vendors, and report on failure trends\nEnsure tire purchasing complies with national account programs at shop terminals and in over-the-road situations, and monitor tire inventory levels\nMeet with tire OEMs and vendors, survey the industry, and adopt best practices that maximize tire life and lower tire cost per mile\nPartner with location maintenance teams on corporate KPIs that drive reductions in tire cost and breakdown frequency\nAssist the Vice President of Maintenance in creating tire budgets\nEquipment Sales & Disposal\nSupport equipment sales and disposal, including evaluating, purchasing, and selling trucks and trailers\nEvaluate equipment condition, maintenance history, and market value to recommend purchase, retention, or sale decisions\nNegotiate pricing and terms with buyers\nSkills Required\nStrong leadership and people management skills\nWorking knowledge of truck and trailer maintenance, repair, and tire management\nBroad knowledge of DOT rules and regulations\nStrong math and analytical skills, including computing rates, ratios, and percentages\nAbility to solve problems, exercise good judgment, and think quickly under pressure\nStrong interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively with peers to correct discrepancies and improve processes\nEffective verbal and written communication skills\nHighly organized and detail oriented, with the ability to set priorities and work with little supervision\nAbility to succeed in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure to meet deadlines with poise, tact, and diplomacy\nProficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based fleet systems such as Trimble AMS, TMT, and OVISS\nQualifications\nAssociate, vocational, or technical degree, or equivalent work experience; bachelor's degree preferred\nAt least five (5) years of experience in fleet maintenance or heavy equipment repair\nAt least three (3) years of operations management experience in the transportation industry, including dispatching emergency service\nPrior experience as a professional truck driver with a CDL preferred\nExperience managing mid-size to large fleet tire maintenance programs preferred\nExperience buying or selling trucks and trailers preferred\nWork Environment\nOffice-based role in a fast-paced fleet support environment\nOccasional travel to terminals and vendor locations as needed\nLocation: Plymouth, MI (this is not a hybrid role)\nUnited Road is proud to offer our full-time employees best-in-class benefits designed to support your health, well-being, and financial security.
