Growing together.\nAs a Senior Data Engineer / Senior Database Administrator within Optum Technology supporting OptumCare products-including Curo, Order Utility, and Optum Pro-you will design, implement, and maintain resilient Postgres and MySQL database solutions in an Azure cloud environment. You will solve complex data architectural challenges, drive database performance tuning, implement task automation, manage Snowflake administration and security, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support high-impact clinical and care delivery applications.\nTo support this mission, OSIT has initiated a multi-year modernization program aimed at updating and enhancing enterprise technology systems in accordance with modern design standards.\nIf you reside in Schaumburg, Illinois, you will enjoy the flexibility of an office-based role as you take on some tough challenges.\nPrimary Responsibilities:\nAdminister, maintain, and upgrade Postgres and MySQL databases in Azure across multiple environments to ensure optimal availability, scalability, and resilience\nDesign and implement database solutions, enhancements, and data architectures supporting OptumCare applications including Curo, Order Utility, and Optum Pro\nOptimize and tune database performance through data model design, query tuning, indexing, and capacity planning\nPerform Snowflake database administration, access controls, and security configuration\nEliminate team churn and operational waste by designing and implementing automation for routine database administration and menial tasks\nUse enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement\nEvaluate emerging trends and technologies to inform solution design, architectural updates, and strategic innovation\nEnforce security standards, access controls, data encryption, and robust backup/disaster recovery strategies\nCreate and maintain technical documentation related to database architecture, design, and operational procedures\nWork independently across multiple Scrum teams to collaborate on application architecture, decision-making, and cohesive solution delivery\nSolve unique and complex database problems with broad business impact, effectively communicating and translating complex concepts for technical and non-technical stakeholders\nPresent and demonstrate database solutions and project outcomes to technical peers, partner teams, and senior leadership\nMentor junior members of the engineering team to foster technical excellence and achieve key business objectives\nYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.\nRequired Qualifications:\n5+ years of experience in Postgres database administration, architecture, and configuration\n5+ years of experience using SQL for querying, data manipulation, and database management\n5+ years of experience optimizing database performance through indexing, query tuning, and database optimization techniques\n3+ years of experience in MySQL database administration\n3+ years of experience with Postgres Flexible Server on Microsoft Azure\n3+ years of experience in systems analysis\n3+ years of experience presenting and demonstrating technical solutions to peers and senior management\n2+ years of experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment\n2+ years of experience in Snowflake administration and security\nUnited States citizenship is required for this position\nMust be able to obtain and maintain a suitability or determination of eligibility for a Confidential/Secret or Top-Secret security clearance\nPreferred Qualifications:\n5+ years of experience working in a Healthcare environment or Medical Management domain\n3+ years of Care Management and Utilization Management domain experience\n2+ years of experience working in a cloud-based enterprise environment\nHands-on experience with Linux operating systems\nExperience working effectively within a distributed or virtual team environment\nExperience with technical tools and technologies such as GitHub, Python, Java, Postgres, and Azure\n*All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.\nPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
